New Scene()

Yami Benjy, May, and Max are walking through the Tree of the World’s Beginning.  Qliqli floats behind them, while Yami Benjy is rapidly writing in his notebook.

Max: Any idea who those people were?

May: Ciri said something to me about a battle called Rootshock which involved Mirazu and Zamorak, so those could have been Mirazians.

Benjy: Mirazu?  I don’t remember that name from Runescape™.  But then again, I don’t think I unlocked everything.

Yami Benjy: Interesting.  We know that Aaron traveled to the tree of the beginning to avert some kind of battle.

May: You don’t think he was going to–

Yami Benjy: All we know is this was ready to explode, it’s unlikely it still is, but it’s possible.  They mentioned something up above, so I think we’ll find more answers higher up.

Yami Benjy points to a tunnel sloping upwards.  Max nods, and all three attempt to enter the tunnel that Yami Benjy’s pointed out.  The slope though turns out too steep for anyone to climb.  Max is ready to give up, but Benjy throws Bayleef’s ball up the slope, and requests that Bayleef help them up with vine whip.  May goes first, then Max, and then they both get ready to help Yami Benjy who’s weight makes him difficult for Bayleef to pull.

After a failed attempt, Yami Benjy takes a running start, and with Qliqli pushing, Bayleef May and Max are able to help him up the ten-foot-high slope, but this endeavor leaves them all exhausted and panting on the edge of the slope, although Yami Benjy takes a few steps away from the edge of the slope before resting.

Max: You know, it makes me a little nervous exploring this place to be honest.

May: We should contact Ciri.  Maybe she knows–

Max takes out his pokénav and stares at it.

Max: It’s not getting any reception.

Max taps the pokénav nervously.

Yami Benjy: The tree is probably blocking it.  In the mean time, what do you guys know about Mirazu?

Max: Not much, but Ciri does.  That’s why we’re trying to contact her.

May: I just know that he fought in the god wars, and his colors were green and silver.

Yami Benjy: I see.

Max: They study the god wars in-depth in 5th grade.

May nods.

Yami Benjy: This complicates matters.  Qliqli?

Qliqli: Qlee?

Yami Benjy: Can you keep an eye out for time flowers?

Qliqli nods, and Yami Benjy turns to May and Max.

Yami Benjy: You guys too.

May and Max nod, and Yami Benjy relaxes slightly.

May: But what about the bomb!  We might set it off without–

Yami Benjy: I don’t think we have to worry about accidentally setting off the bomb.  It’s somehow laster four hundred years, so either the Mirazians defused it or it’s not all that easy to activate.  Still the sky-elf worries guy me.

Max: Do you think he’ll set it off?

Yami Benjy: It’s way too soon to tell what his intentions are.

New Scene()

Lucario emerges onto one of the branches of the Tree of the World’s Beginning, holding a device in his hands.

Lucario: Another one down… Those probes are dropping like flies.

Lucario looks around and sees a time-flower, and darts over to touch it, but quickly realizes it hasn’t recorded anything.  Lucario turns a corner and sniffs the air, before stopping to inspect the rock of a passage, rubbing it then smelling his fingers.

Lucario: It’s the same everywhere, yet it’s nothing like aura I’ve ever seen before.  Aura is supposed to be fluid, dynamic…  Like some kind of cross between a liquid and a gas.  This aura is static like something between solid and liquid.  I don’t understand, and it’s everywhere…

<Flashback>

Lucario and Aaron are standing outside the Onuduran castle.

Aaron: Aura is shaped by your experiences, that’s why it comes in so many varieties.

Lucario stares at Aaron concentrating.

Aaron: It’s basically a combination of everything you’ve experienced, which is then filtered though your outlook on life.  Now do you understand what you’re trying to see?

Lucario takes a step back from Aaron, and starts to say something.

</Flashback>

Lucario: So what does this mean?

Lucario pauses and looks around.

Lucario: Aside that Kidd and Brock were both able to somehow give me the slip while I’ve been pondering?  They’ve got to be up to no good.

Lucario walks down the passageway, looking back and forth.  He suddenly sees a time-flower growing in a junction, and begins to walk towards it.

Max: Lucario!

Lucario jumps at the sound of Max’s voice, and turns to face Max.

Max: S-sorry.

Lucario: It’s okay.  Where’s everyone else?

Max and Lucario stare at each other briefly.

Max: Um…

Lucario: Sorry, I forgot you can’t communicate telepathically.

Max:

Lucario: It’s okay.  Where’s everyone else?

Max: Benjy and May are coming.

May’s voice: Max, who are you talking to?

Max: I found Lucario!

May and Yami Benjy enter the junction behind Max.

Lucario: You haven’t seen Brock and Kidd, have you?

May and Max look at each other nervously, then both shake their heads.

Lucario: Well the tree’s aura is all weird.  It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

Yami Benjy: That’s probably because it’s a bomb.

Lucario looks confused.

Lucario: I don’t understand.

Yami Benjy: Do you know what a bomb is, Lucario?

Lucario: Yes, but I don’t understand what you mean by saying that this tree is one.

Yami Benjy: Lucario, did Aaron ever say anything when he sealed you in the staff?

Lucario pauses.

Lucario: Just one thing.

May and Max gasp.  Lucario shakes his head as he says the next line.

Lucario: That he didn’t serve the queen anymore.

Yami Benjy: I see.

Lucario: You can you explain what you mean by–

Yami Benjy nods, and Qliqli hovers over May’s head.

Yami Benjy: I believe that this tree might be set to explode if certain conditions are met.  Max stepped on a time flower a ways back, and we saw two people in green and silver robes saying that the tree was a bomb, and that they were trying to defuse it.

Max flinches as Yami Benjy says his name in the above comment.

May: Do you think it has anything to do with Aaron?

Lucario: I don’t know.

May: I think they were Mirazians…

Lucario: I don’t know what that means, except that it means that people other than Aaron were here at some point.

Lucario: And it’s not a tree.  The aura’s all wrong.

Max: Trees have aura too?

Lucario nods.

Lucario: It’s extremely faint.  But they have it.

Yami Benjy: Maybe it’s not aura.

Lucario: What do you mean?

Yami Benjy: The people we observed said that this tree-thing is made of highly condensed anima.  That may be another word for mew aqua.

Lucario: Interesting hypothesis, but where does Aaron come in?

Max: Well the only way we’ll figure that out is is by looking for and activating more time-flowers.

Lucario: Looks like it’s a plan then.

May and Yami Benjy both nod.

Qliqli: Qliqli!

Max: So we’ll split up and search?

Yami Benjy: No splitting up.  Our communications technology doesn’t work.

Lucario: Speaking of which, you reminded me that something’s been taking out Kidd’s pods.

May and Max look at Lucario curiously.

Yami Benjy: That gives us a place to start, then.

Qliqli: Qliqli!  Qliqli!

Lucario now shifts to his aura vision, and QST.camera synchronizes with it.  May is red-pink, Max is purple-blue, and Yami Benjy is yellow-green.  The Tree of the World’s Beginning however is different, instead of shimmering with light, it’s aura looks more like a clear molasses.  As Lucario stares, May, Max, and Yami Benjy turn to go.

Lucario: It doesn’t make sense…

Max: Come on, Lucario!

Lucario snaps out of aura vision, and QST.camera de-synchronizes with Lucario’s vision.

New Scene(@Temporal = Afternoon)

The sky-elf levitates in front of Ash and Ciri.  Ciri is unsteady, but manages to keep her balance.

Sky-Elf: So why are you looking for mew aqua anyway?

Ciri: Because I want to.

The sky-elf stares at Ciri nervously, clearly not expecting this response.

Sky-Elf: I mean, why do you want to?

Ash: Hey, it’s our turn.  What’s your name.

The sky-elf hesitates, then relaxes.

Sky-Elf Dren: You can call me Dren.  And you?

Ash: Ash Ketchum.

Ash gestures to Ciri.

Ash: Ciri.

Dren: Ash and Ciri.

Satolite: Coom!

Dren: I don’t even understand though.  How do you people even know about mew aqua?  And what use do you have for it?

Ash: Hold on, first, why do you want it.

Satolite: Coom!  Coom!

Dren looks at Satolite, as if he understands at least partially.

Dren: It’s a long story.  My species, along time ago, used to live on this planet.

Ash: Why did you leave?

Dren: The environment changed.  I don’t know exactly what happened, but the planet became uninhabitable.  My ancestors had to leave for a new world.

Ash: And now you want to come back?

Dren shudders.

Dren: We have to.  Our new home is undergoing an ice age.  Now where the mew aqua comes in.  Apparently it can reset the environment to the way it was when we left, so we can live here.

Dren eyes Ciri nervously.

Dren: Is she okay?

Ciri: Listening to your story, there’s one part that doesn’t make sense.

Dren: What do you mean?

Ciri: Why do you need to reset the environment?  You’re returning because the planet is habitable, yet you need to make it habitable.

Dren: Um, that’s what I was told…  Uh, so now why do you want to find the mew aqua?

Ciri: I heard about it from a friend, but she didn’t say what it was, so I got curious.

Dren looks at Ciri nervously.

Dren: Is that it?!  You’re pretty zarking tough for just random kid!  Wait a minute, that means you’re probably friends with–

Ash: Hey Dren, how long ago did your species live here?

Dren hesitates, clearly surprised.  The wind blows around Ash, Ciri, and Dren.

Dren: I’m not sure the time frame.  But it’s been eons–

Ash’s expression changes, cutting Dren off mid-sentence.

Ash: You’re misinformed.

Dren: You mean…?

Ash: About why you left.  It was the Dragonkin.

Ciri: Ash…

Ash turns to Ciri as she sits down.  Ciri doesn’t have to finish her sentence, as Ash appears to instantly understand.

Dren: What are the Dragonkin?

Ash: It was fifteen million years ago.  There was an advanced civilization here on Fenyra.  But it wasn’t an environmental change.  There was a legendary object.

Dren: An object?

Ash: The Stone of Jas.

Question marks dance around Dren’s head.

Dren: Stone of Jas?

Ash: Your ancestors found it and brought it here.

Dren: Go on?

Ash: However, wherever the Stone of Jas goes, the Dragonkin follow.  The Dragonkin destroyed the civilization, and nearly wiped out your species, forcing the survivors to flee into space.

Narrator: See?  Isn’t talking so much more productive than fighting.

Dren seems to take this in.

Dren: And what happened after that?

Ash: There was a long war.  I don’t know the full details.

Dren stares at Ash.

Dren: Perhaps your species won in a war of attrition.

Dren: …Thanks…  My mission…  I was supposed to use the mew aqua to turn the environment back to what it was when my people lived here…

Ash: …You said that…

Dren: …Wiping out all other life in the process…

Ash and Ciri stare at Dren, dumbstruck.

Ash: What?!

Dren: But (bleep) that!

Ciri lies down on the branch, looking sick, leaving Ash and Dren to continue their conversation.

Dren: That fits my suspicions.

Dren: So how did you hear about it?

Ash gestures at Ciri, and Dren turns his gaze, then suddenly recoils upon seeing Ciri’s piercing stare.

Dren: I–I wasn’t planning on going through with it!  Honest!

Slowly, Ciri rises to feet.

Ciri: Scarlet bond.

A magic circle about four feet in diameter appears behind Ciri’s back from a single point.

Ash: Wait, Ciri–

Ciri: Do you swear that upon your life?

Lines of energy now cover Ciri’s back and shoot down her arms drawing strange patters.

Ash: What are you doing?!

Ciri: Scarlet bond.  I choose N creatures, and a target.  If more than seventy percent of the N people I choose die, then the target ceases to exist.

QST.camera switches to Dren as he stares at Ciri, dumbstruck.

Ciri: I’m selecting twenty-eight creatures, which includes me.  To make sure that you don’t seek to obliterate life of this world, accept this scarlet bond!  …And I’ll give you the information you seek…

Dren stares at Ciri nervously, while Ash watches her wide-eyed.  Suddenly, a magical spark appears at Ciri’s right side and appears to zap her, almost causing her to fall over.  The lines on her right arm suddenly become unstable and blurry.

Ash: CIRI!

Ciri takes a step forwards to catch herself, and appears to concentrate harder.  The lines on her right side become more distinct again, but before they can become fully distinct, the lines on her left side start to become unstable.  Then all the lines of magic energy suddenly become fully distinct.

Ciri: Do you accept?!

Dren stares at Ciri, then smiles and nods his head, leaving Ash dumbfounded.

Ash: No way!

Dren: I accept.  There’s someone here…  Who is…  Important to me…

Dren seems to have trouble saying these words.  Immediately the magic circle behind Ciri, and the lines of magical energy extend to Dren, and creates a magic circle behind Dren spinning in the opposite direction.  These magic circles spin faster and faster until they become a blur a light blue light which turns into a pair of cones around Ciri and Dren, using the two magic circles as the tops of the cones.  (The points of the cones are equidistant between Dren and Ciri).  As this light fades, Ciri collapses to her knees, exhausted.  She speaks the next line, panting.

Ciri: I heard about it from a friend of mine.

Ash: Ciri, what’s the time frame on–

Ash is cut off as Ciri and Dren glow red, and he glows yellow.  This glow fades a half-second later.

Ciri: I set it at twenty years.

Narrator: Crimson bond is a level ten magic spell, designed by the Zamorakian Magical Institute of Fenyra.  The spell is highly rune-intensive, and grants 558 magic experience per cast, plus additional experience depending on the value of N.

Ash’s Pokédex: Experienced mages can use crimson bond to gain over fifty thousand magic experience per cast.

Ash: What does that mean?

New Scene()

May, Max, Yami Benjy, and Lucario are walking through the Tree of the World’s Beginning.  Suddenly, May and Max both glow yellow.  On impulse, Lucario leaps backwards.

Yami Benjy: ??

May and Max look down at their hands panicked, and then suddenly relax.

Lucario: What just happened?

Max: Ciri cast a certain spell.

May nods.

Lucario: A spell?!

May: It’s just telling us–

Max: That she cast it.

May: It doesn’t actually do anything to us.

Lucario: Interesting.

Yami Benjy: I see.  I didn’t know that a spell like that existed.

May: It was only invented recently, pretty cool, right?

Revert Scene()

Dren: A friend?

Ciri: Yeah.  A friend from school.  She said she was looking for it.

Ciri now lies back down in the grass.

Ciri: She asked me if I had heard about it, and when I said I hadn’t, she said to never-mind and wouldn’t say any more.

The wind blows from behind Dren, rustling Ciri’s hair.  Ash looks back, expecting to see Pikachu, but realizes it’s only Satolite.

Ash: Ciri, we still need to find Pikachu…

Ciri: Right.

Ciri now sits up again.

Dren: Pikachu?

Ciri: While we’re looking for the mew aqua, like you, we initially came here to find his Pikachu.

Dren: What’s a Pikachu?

Ash pulls out his pokédex and begins pressing buttons to bring up Pikachu for Dren.

New Scene()

May, Max, Lucario, Yami Benjy, and Qliqli continue through the Tree of the World’s Beginning.  Lucario is holding a tracking device.

Max: Where are we heading first?

Lucario: The destination is straight ahead and three hundred feet above us.  …I don’t know how we’re going to get there…

QST.camera now shifts backwards a ways to where the tunnel turns.  Suddenly, four semi-translucent red blobs, each about a foot across, emerges from the turn and begin to follow the group.  After observing these blobs for about 5 seconds (real time); QST.camera shifts back to the group.

Lucario: There’s something following us at a distance of sixty meters.

May and Max turn around, and glance backwards, but turn around again not seeing anything.

Yami Benjy: How fast are they moving?

Lucario: Same speed we are.

Yami Benjy nods, then calls out without turning around:

Yami Benjy: Brock?  Kidd?

For about two seconds they wait for a reply, continuing to walk forwards at the same time.

Qliqli: Qliqliqli!

Lucario: ?

Lucario enters aura vision, and looks around.

Lucario: The tree’s aura is changing.

Max: Huh?

<Flashback>

Lucario and Aaron are standing outside the Onuduran castle.

Aaron: Aura is shaped by your experiences.

</Flashback>

Lucario: Doesn’t make sense.  Aura is shaped by your experiences.  It doesn’t change that rapidly.

Yami Benjy: This tree is just a collection of anima.  I would not be surprised if the rules you know didn’t apply.

Lucario: Hold on, they’re now at forty meters.

Yami Benjy: Is it Brock and Kidd?

Lucario: There are six of them.  They’re all moving together, too fluid to be humans.

The group now turns the corner to the right.  About two seconds pass after this.

Lucario: Thirty meters; they’re moving through the wall.

May: Moving…  Through…  The wall…?

Lucario: We should hurry.

Yami Benjy: There’s no point in running unless we know what we’re running from.  Tell me when they’re within ten meters.

In the distance, the tunnel is seen branching into two paths, with the left sloping down and the right sloping upwards.

May: Should we take the right path?

Max: Well of course.  The question is which is the right path to take.

May: No I mean the right path!

Max: But what path is the right path?

Lucario: We lost them.

Max: We did?

Yami Benjy: This is suspicious.

Max: Well, if you remember, there are all sorts of pokémon that live here.

New Scene()

Red blobs are seen moving through the Tree of the World’s Beginning, carrying what looks like Brock’s and Kidd’s clothing.  They move through a clear-ish gel towards the edge of the tree.  QST.camera now shifts through the clear-ish gel to where Ash, Ciri, and Dren are.  Dren is staring at Ash’s pokédex.

Dren: So that’s a Pikachu…

Ash: You haven’t seen one, have you?

Dren shakes his head.

Dren: Nope.

The wind now starts to pick up.

Satolite: Coo!

Dren: I’m getting a weird sensation coming from upwind.

Ash: Could it be Pikachu?

Dren: I don’t know.  Want to check it out together?

Ash and Ciri both nod in agreement.  Ash now recalls Torkoal, who appears to be disliking the cold wind.

Ciri: Lets go.

Dren picks up Ciri, being careful not to touch the burned area on her back, and Satolite grabs onto Ash and lifts him in the air.  The wind now starts to blow even more strongly, giving both a gentle push.

Refresh Scene()

Satolite is carrying Ash and Dren is carrying Ciri as both zip through the air.  Ciri and Dren take a lower route while Ash and Satolite take a higher one.

Ash: PIKACHU!

Ciri: PIKACHU!

Ciri winds up coughing immediately after calling out for Pikachu.

Dren: You okay?

Ciri nods, and scans the nearby branches.  Overhead, Ash calls out for Pikachu again.

Dren: Maybe that Pikachu’s not on the outside…

Ciri: That’s unlikely.  It wants to be with it’s trainer also.  Come on, we’re falling behind.

Ciri points up towards Ash and Satolite flying ahead.

Dren: Bear in mind your not that light.

Ciri: I’ve been told that, but you can do better than this, can’t you?

Dren nods, and takes off moving towards Ash.  Ciri starts to call out for Pikachu, but gets a mouthful of air and winds up coughing again.

Dren: You okay?

Ciri: I’m fine…  PIKACHU!

Ciri and Dren fly though the air, while Ash calls out for Pikachu a couple more times.

Dren: What noise does a Pikachu make?

Ciri: It says "Pikachu", which is where it gets its name.

Dren: That’s surprisingly logical.

Ciri: Your ears are bigger than mine, so you’ll probably be able to hear it before me.

Dren seems irritated by this remark, and grips Ciri more tightly, without realizing it.

Ciri: OW!

Dren almost drops Ciri before re-adjusting his grip.

Dren: Sorry!

QST.camera now zooms out and zooms in on Ash.

Satolite: Coo!

Ash: I know, I’ll use Ta–

Ciri’s Voice: Don’t use Taillow, Ash!

QST.camera synchronizes with Ash’s vision as he looks down at Dren and Ciri.

Ciri: The wind is too strong!

QST.camera now de-synchronizes with Ash’s vision.

New Scene()

Yami Benjy, May, Max, Lucario, and Qliqli continue through the tunnels in the Tree of the World’s Beginning.  Up ahead, the path dips down steeply, and then goes back up again.  At the edge of the bottom of the pit in front of them, there is a tunnel to the outside.  The others have stopped walking, not quite sure of what to make of it.

May: How do we get across that?

Yami Benjy smiles.

Yami Benjy: By spirit alone.  Just think of it like one of those ropes courses.

Max: Except if you fall you die.

Lucario turns to Yami Benjy.

Lucario: That’s twelve feet…  Can you jump twelve feet?

Suddenly, the Millennium Gameboy Advance de-activates in a pulse of light.

Lucario: You’re aura changed!

QST.camera split-screens on May, Max, and Qliqli.

May: What?!

Qliqli: Klee!

Benjy: Sorry…  We’re not jumping that.

Yami Benjy: But Benjy–

Benjy: Spirit won’t let you get away with being stupid.

Yami Benjy: Remind me to say that next time you–

Benjy:

Yami Benjy: ?

Benjy: It’s also important to know your limits.

Slowly Benjy’s body appears to start to jump.

May: Benjy!

Benjy stumbles backwards.

Max: What do you think you were doing?

Benjy: We’ll continue this discussion later.

Benjy quickly removes the Millennium Gameboy Advance.

Lucario: What’s going on?  You’re aura changed!

Benjy: Someone thought it was a good idea to try and leap that…

Benjy gestures to the Millennium Gameboy Advance.  May and Max appear to understand, but Lucario remains confused.

May: Lets go back and take the branch to the right this time?

Max and Benjy nod.  As soon as they are about fifteen feet from the depression, Benjy puts the Millennium Gameboy Advance back on.

Yami Benjy: What was that about?

Benjy: You almost killed me.

Yami Benjy: What about your spirit?!

Benjy: It’s not an excuse to be stupid!

Yami Benjy cringes at the force of this remark.

Yami Benjy: But every other time–

Benjy: There’s always a plan B if something goes wrong.

Yami Benjy: What about the time we jumped after Ila!

<Flashback>("Night in the Theater")

She runs to a window, and jumps out, revealing wings and begins to fly.  Yami Benjy jumps after her, but misses.

Benjy: …!

As Yami Benjy falls, his feet land on something solid.  The lady flies up into the sunny sky, thinking she has lost Yami Benjy.  She turns her head forwards, just in time to miss Yami Benjy shooting up at her, riding a strange pink and purple flying saucer (slick star).

</Flashback>

The above flashback lasts about 4 seconds (real time).  Now they are once again walking through the Tree of the World’s Beginning.

Benjy: I could have survived a fall from that height had we not gotten the Slick Star when we did.  I couldn’t have survived this.

Yami Benjy: I see.  Is it possible that you’re afraid of heights?

Benjy: You have stage fright.

Yami Benjy: Point made.

Benjy: And there’s a reason I don’t run down stairs…

Yami Benjy: I said, "Point made."

The group has now made it back to the last fork in the tunnel, and now enter the rightwards tunnel.

Yami Benjy: Still, I never would have guessed that took those kinds of things into consideration.

Benjy: What can I say?  This isn’t some kind of TV show where everything will always work out okay in the end.

QST.camera shifts behind Benjy to where blobs start to emerge from the walls, but retreat immediately when Lucario turns around.

New Scene()

May, Max, Benjy, Lucario, and Qliqli continue through the passages, into an oval-shaped room at the end of this tunnel.  This room is about 12 feet across, and thirty feet from beginning to end.  All five walk (or in Qliqli’s case, hover) into the room.  Max looks over the walls.

Max: Well, this is odd.

May: Max!  Look over there!

Max turns to where May is pointing.

Max: It’s a time flower.

QST.camera zooms in on a time-flower growing in a crack that runs through the center of the room, though the time-flower is closer to the far wall on the right side of the room.

May: Should I–

Lucario: Wait…

Lucario walks over to the time-flower, while Benjy and Qliqli follow him.  Lucario bends down and examines the time flower carefully.  After examining it for about three seconds (real time); Lucario requests that May stand back, which she does.

Lucario: Hmm…

Very gently, Lucario taps the time-flower.  It suddenly activates in a burst of light, projecting the image of a mossy table into the center of the room.  Benjy and May quickly move out of the way of the table, and behind a row of men and women in green robes who appear as projections standing around the table.  Max gasps.  Suddenly, a taller man in green robes enters the room and all the other men and women turn around.

May: Is that Miraz–

Max: Shh!

Projection_of_Woman1: Captain Murray.  Late as always.

Projection_of_Man1: He’s a temporalist.  Give him some slack.

Projection_of_Man2: At least he got the day right this time.

May: They’re acting like children! (whisper)

Lucario: I don’t think the captain can hear them. (whisper)

The projection of the captain proceeds to pull out a projection of a handkerchief form the projection of pocket and use it to blow his nose several times before he returns it to his projection of a pocket.  Then he takes out some projections of crackers and starts to munch on them.  The display now freezes.

May: Is this supposed to happen?

Lucario: Hold on.

Lucario blows gently on the time-flower, it moves gently, and the projections start moving again.

Projection_of_Captain_Murray: Mirazu says this whole thing gives him the creeps.  He wants to leave this to the mancers, and move anyone who feels the same as he does to the east.

Projection_of_Woman2: Ya kiddin’ me!

Projection_of_Captain_Murray: The mancers haven’t confirmed it yet–

The projection now cuts out, and as soon as the projections disappear, red blobs are revealed behind where the projections were.  Realizing that they are surrounded, May, Max, Benjy, and Lucario huddle together, with Qliqli landing on Max’s head.

May: Wait!  We didn’t even get to hear anything new!

Max: What are they?

May quickly pulls out her pokédex, but the screen is completely white, and the pokédex is completely unresponsive.

May: ?

Max: That’s weird.  If it’s a new pokémon the pokédex should–

Max is cut off as a red blob zips by Max’s head and snatches May’s pokédex out of her hand, engulfing it in the process, and begins to zip off through the room.

May: Give that back!

May lunges after the blob with her pokédex, but suddenly two blobs descend onto her shoulders, followed by two more, immobilizing her.

Max: May!

Four more red blobs descend on May, two by two.  As a fifth set starts to descend on her, Lucario shoots a blast of aura through the descending set, but now the blobs have merged to encompass May entirely, except for her head.  Benjy darts forwards towards to grab May, and two pairs of blobs descend on him, but Lucario destroys one of these pairs with a shot of aura.

Benjy grabs May by the arm, and the blobs around May start to crawl up his arm.  Immediately two more sets of blobs descend on Benjy and May.  Benjy shields himself with the arm not grabbing May, but May can’t move her arms to do the same.

Yami Benjy: Is this a good time to use spirit?

May now starts to sink into the floor.

Benjy: Duh!

The Millennium Gameboy Advance starts shining, and Benjy curses trying to free May.  Suddenly, the blobs all bombard Benjy, May, Max, and Qliqli.  Blobs cover May’s face, and she starts to suffocate, forcing Yami Benjy to attempt to rip them away.  Yami Benjy manages to cut the blobs away fro May’s face, allowing her to take a desperate breath of air, before she falls over backwards and the blobs cover her face again.  This forces Yami Benjy to stick his arms into the red blob around May to try and extract her.

Yami Benjy: Lucario!

Lucario has been shooting down blobs, and darts forwards and grabs May also, leaving Max behind him vulnerable to an aerial assault.  May starts to turn blue as Yami Benjy and Lucario work as fast as they can to extract her, Yami Benjy being constantly bombarded with blobs, while Lucario is mysteriously untargeted.  A blob suddenly drops onto Yami Benjy’s face, causing Lucario to turn.

Yami Benjy: Melp May!

Max screams and Yami Benjy is forced to let go of May, stumbling backwards.  Lucario reaches down and grabs May a split-second before she is absorbed into the floor.  Max screams again, but his scream is simply muffled, and turns into a desperate cough.

Lucario: There really strong!

Yami Benjy rips the blobs away from his face, while four more zip up the hallway and glom onto Yami Benjy’s shoulders and hips!

Yami Benjy: You’re stronger!

Yami Benjy: Max!

Yami Benjy reaches for Max, but Max falls backwards, as if he’s being absorbed into the floor.  QST.camera goes into slow motion as Yami Benjy lunges forwards, but can’t quite reach.  A wish tag pops out of Max’s backpack, which is surrounded by the blobs.  Then suddenly, May, Max, Yami Benjy, Lucario, and Qliqli, who’s fighting a blob trying to pull him into the wall, are teleported away, splattering the blobs around them.

New Scene()

Further down the corridor, May, Max, Yami Benjy, Lucario, and Qliqli arrive via teleportation.  May and Max gasp for air, and Jirachi levitates over Max’s head.

Lucario: What happened!?

May is too weak to speak.

Max: Jirachi teleported us right at the last second.

Lucario: I see…  Hold that thought.  Something’s approaching at eighty meters.

May starts to get to her feet, but is too weak, so Lucario picks her up.  Max looks at May curiously, who is strangely barefoot.

Max: What happened to her shoes?

Lucario: Sixty meters!  What do we do?

Yami Benjy looks backwards nervously.

Qliqli: Qliqli!

Yami Benjy: Run away!

Max: What?

Yami Benjy: Run away!!!

#SETDEF { (Yami)/Benjy, May, Max, Lucario, Qliqli } = "May and company"

Lucario’s voice: Ten yards!

Max looks back to see the blobs racing at them, and as he does he trips over something.  May notices this and starts to stop.

May: MAX!

As Max trips, Qliqli and grab him by the shirt and pull him forwards.  At the same time, Yami Benjy grabs May’s hand to stop her from stopping, pulling her along.  May immediately blushes as soon as she realizes what’s going on.

May: His hand is so warm–I mean…

The blobs now come hurling at May and company as May refocuses on the situation around her.  May and company are now drawing near to the exit of the tunnel, but as they get within twenty meters of it, red blobs start emerging from the walls around the exit.

Lucario: !

Yami Benjy: Charge!

May and company continue running towards the emerging blobs.

Yami Benjy: Don’t slow down!  You’ll need all the speed you have to push through!

The blobs suddenly start pouring out of the walls floor and ceiling, creating a blockage about 9 feet thick.  May and company charge, but all get stuck within the first five feet of the blockage.

Max: This isn’t working!

May: I can’t move!

Yami Benjy reaches out, grabbing both May and Max, and gritting his teeth.

Yami Benjy: It’s not by might!  It’s not by power!

Suddenly Yami Benjy’s feet touch the ground again, and he pushes forwards dragging May and Max with him.

Yami Benjy: It’s by spirit alone!

Yami Benjy is able to drag May and Max forwards a few feet, but the blobs crowd around them, filling the passage.  Blobs quickly crowd around May and Max, and then Yami Benjy, slowly covering their faces.  Max takes a deep breath as a blob starts to cover his face.

Max: May!  Use *it*!

May takes a deep breath like Max, while she still can, and nods that she understood Max.  QST.camera now synchronizes to Yami Benjy’s vision as he also takes a deep breath and forces his way through the blobs.  May looks nervous as Yami Benjy tries to force his way through the mass of red material with a swimmers’ kick.  Then Yami Benjy is pushed forwards slightly, towards the light.

QST.camera desynchronizes with Yami Benjy’s vision and switches to May.

May: I can’t hold my breath anymore.  I guess I have have to…

May is starting to go limp, as is Max.  May looks at Yami Benjy’s hand nervously, and then starts to close her eyes.  QST.camera synchronizes with May’s vision as she does.  Then, before May can completely close her eyes, something grabs her arm and yanks her forwards, out of the red goo, at which point QST.camera desynchronizes from May’s vision.

Refresh Scene(@Temporal = Early_Evening)

A Registeel pulls May out of the red goo, while a Registeam extracts Yami Benjy and Max, and a Regifloras extracts Qliqli.  Lucario and Jirachi slip out of the goo easily following Yami Benjy.  May and company lie on the branch panting, as the goo slowly begins to clear.

Max: May, you didn’t do it, did you?

May shakes her head, looking uneasy.

Regifloras: Jee-jee?

Yami Benjy quickly stands up, and Registeel and Registeam move May and Max away from where the red blobs are, and Yami Benjy follows, with Lucario, Jirachi, and Qliqli.  As soon as May and company (plus Jirachi) are about 10 feet from the blobs, the rate at which the goo is clearing increases substantially.

May: What’s going on?

Registeam: Steam.  Registeam.

Lucario: Hmm…

Registeam: Steam.  Team steam.

Lucario nods slowly.

Registeam: Steam.  Reegeestyee-yee-yeem.

Lucario: I see.

May: What’s it saying?

Registeam: Registeam.

Lucario: It says the tree, but is made up of a substance.

May falls over, lying on the ground exhausted.

May: Huh?

Yami Benjy: *pant* Anima. *pant*

Registeel: Gee.

Lucario: Registeel says that’s the human word for it.

Registeam: Steam-steam-steam-steam-steam.  Registeeeem!

Lucario: It’s not normal anima.  This is highly concentrated.  But I don’t understand.  What is anima?

Yami Benjy: It’s a catalyst for life.  It makes it easier for life to develop.  It was explained to me like this: life is just the result of a system of chemical reactions.

Cutscene(auto_define) {

A diagram appears of a chemical reaction and the activation energy needed.  Note that this is approximate only.  The red is high-energy and the blue is low-energy.

Yami Benjy.narration: Chemicals react when things can move from a high energy state to a low energy state.

Pasted Graphic.pdf

Yami Benjy.narration: However, there is often energy needed to start the chemical reaction.  That’s called activation energy.

Max.voice_over: And the catalyst supplies that energy?

Pasted Graphic 1.pdf

Yami Benjy.narration: Close, it reduces the energy needed to start the reaction, so less energy has to be supplied to make it happen, and the reaction is more likely to go…

Pasted Graphic 2.pdf

Yami Benjy.narration: …when energy comes alongPasted Graphic 3.pdf

Yami Benjy.narration: Without the catalyst, that spark that causes the reaction to occur would need to be larger to make the reaction go.

Pasted Graphic 4.pdf

}

Yami Benjy: It’s easier to find small amounts of energy than large amounts of energy, so the reaction is more common around catalysts.

Yami Benjy: Did I get that right?

Benjy: I think so.

Regifloras: Rezhi?  Zhi?  Fluff-floras!

May: What are you saying?

The wind blows through May’s, Max’s and Yami Benjy’s hair while Lucario takes a half-second to search for the right words.

Lucario: I believe its saying that in this case, there’s so much of the catalyst, that there’s no need for any activation energy.  Thus, the Tree of the World’s Beginning can function as a living being without actually being alive…

Yami Benjy: Is that possible?

Benjy: I don’t know.  Maybe.

The Millennium Gameboy Advance shines.

Benjy: It means the Mirazians were right, though.

Regifloras: Zheee…

Registeel: Steel.

Lucario: You’re saying the Mirazians put you here?!

QST.camera goes into split-screen on May, Max, and Benjy for about two seconds.

New Scene()

Satolite and Dren zoom through the air, carrying Ash and Ciri respectively.

Dren: Sheesh you’re heavy…  It would be so much easier carrying Zoey (mutter)

Ciri: Zoey?

Dren turns bright red, and quickly lands Ciri on a branch.  Satolite lands Ash on the same branch.

Dren: You know her?

Ciri: There were two Zoeys in my class last year.  Zoey Trinmelth and Zoey Hanson, but it’s a pretty common name.

Dren: Which one told you about Mew Aqua?

Ciri: That was Bridget.

Dren: Not familiar with that name, and I don’t know Zoey’s last name either.  She has pink hair though.

Ciri: That sounds more like Zoey Hanson.

Dren: That sounds about right.

Ciri: How do you know her?

Ash: Does it have something to do with the mew aqua.

Dren: I…  I’d rather not talk about it.

Dren’s face turns red.

Ciri: Normally I don’t pry, but this could be critical information.

Dren looks at Ciri, slightly taken aback.

Ciri: Were you guys working together.

Dren: …More like against each other…

Dren pokes his pointer fingers together, nervously.

Ciri: Huh?

Ash: Are these all classmates of yours, Ciri?

Dren: Hold on, I think I hear Pikachu.

Ash jumps, and nearly falls off the branch, then Dren suddenly teleports.

Ciri: That was too convenient.

Ash: What do you mean!

Satolite: Coocoo!

Ash: Satolite hears it too!

New Scene()

Pikachu is sitting on a branch right outside of a burrow while Mew hovers close by.

Pikachu: PIKA-Piiiiii!

Pikachu takes a deep breath.

Pikachu: PIKACHUU!

Pikachu sends a small spark-bomb into the air.

New Scene()

Dren teleports onto a ledge and looks around.

Dren: Where did that sound come from?

QST.camera synchronizes sound to Dren’s hearing; Dren can’t catch the sound of Pikachu’s voice, although he waits for about five second, hearing nothing but the wind.

Dren: I really thought I heard something.

Something crackles.

Dren: Below me?!

Dren lifts off the branch and descends towards the lower branch.  Both Pikachu and Mew look up.

Dren: Hey!  I’ve come to bring you back to your trainer!

Pikachu: Pika!

Before Dren can reach Pikachu, Mew grabs Pikachu and flies off with Pikachu, forcing Dren to give chase.  As soon as Dren shoots off into the air, Mew lets out a cry of surprise in the discovery that Dren can fly.  Mew starts to fly in the opposite direction of Ash and Ciri.

Mew: Meeew!

Pikachu: Pika-a-a! (upset)

Dren: How am I supposed to–wait!

Dren teleports right in front of Mew.  Mew turns and tries to escape but Dren teleports in front of it again.

Mew: MEW!!

Dren: Hey!

Mew turns and tries to escape but Dren teleports in front of it again once it gets a few feet.

Dren: His friend–

Mew turns and tries to escape but Dren teleports in front of it again once it gets a few feet.

Dren: –is looking–

Mew turns and tries to escape but Dren teleports in front of it again once it gets a few feet.

Dren: –for him!

Mew now zips off in the direction of Ash and Ciri.

Dren: Did it understand me?  Or is this coincidence?

Dren now chases after Mew, and QST.camera’s sound desynchronizes from Dren’s hearing.

New Scene()

Ash and Ciri are standing on the branch.

Ash: …He’s not coming back, is he?

Ciri: Even if Satolite can’t carry us both, it could make two trips, right–

Ciri looks at Satolite, which is sunbathing.

Ash: I never would’ve thought of that.

Ciri: Seriously–wait!

Ash starts to say something, but Ciri puts out her hand to cut him off.  Just then, Mew comes hurdling by.

Mew: Mewmewmewmewmewmewmewmewmewmewmewmewmew!

Pikachu: Pi-KA-pii!

Ash: Pikachu!

Satolite snaps awake in a split-second and zips after Mew almost too fast to be seen until it’s a good ways in the distance.  QST.camera now shifts to Mew who barely has time to turn before Satolite collides with it, swiping Pikachu, and zipping off into the sky, quickly putting 25 feet between Mew and it.

Mew: MEW!!! (angry)

Pikachu: Pikuh! (pleading)

Mew uses psychic on Satolite, but Satolite holds Pikachu close with it’s tractor beam, and Mew quickly decides to use psychic to damage Satolite.  Pikachu uses thunderbolt on Mew, but Mew reflects it into Satolite, which does nothing due to Satolite’s flash thunder ability.  Mew uses psychic again, but Satolite counters with mirror force.  Psychic rebounds off of mirror force, crashing into Mew and dealing massive damage, causing an explosion, which sends Mew hurling downwards and towards the Tree of the World’s Beginning.  Satolite watches Mew for a couple seconds, then flies back to Ash and Ciri with Pikachu.

Refresh Scene()

Ciri’s pokégear rings, and she picks it up just as Satolite returns with Pikachu, whom eagerly jumps onto Ash’s shoulder.

Ciri: Max?

Ciri: What?  What did you discover?  Alright, hold on, tell me in person.  We’ll be right over.

Pikachu: Pika?

Ciri: It’s okay, I have your coordinates.  What?!  Um, okay…

Ciri puts her pokégear away.

Ash: What happened with Mew and Pikachu?

Dren: Well, Mew didn’t want to give up Pikachu, but I thought I was able to tell it…  Uh, never-mind, what did you discover?

Ciri: Something ate May’s shoes, but they’re all fine on the other side of the tree.  They’ll tell us when we get there.

Dren: How come you…

Ciri: You’re coming with us.  We sent them to learn about the Mew Aq–

Ciri is cut off as Dren has already picked her up, causing her to flinch.  Satolite now grabs Ash by the backside and takes off, with Pikachu on Ash’s shoulder.

New Scene()

Dren carrying Ciri, and Satolite carrying Ash and Pikachu are flying towards May and company.  QST.camera fist shows this from May and company’s generalized viewpoint, then switches to Ash and Ciri’s generalized viewpoint.  May and Lucario are both waving.

Max: Ciri!

May: Ash!

Pikachu: Pikachu!

New Scene()

Mew flies through the tunnels of the Tree of the World’s Beginning, looking upset, with an upset mark over the top right corner of it’s face.

Narrator: Meanwhile…

Mew pulses with energy, and some blobs emerge from the tunnels and join Mew.  Mew pulses with energy again, and the blobs pulse with energy in perfect sync with Mew.  They continue to pulse with regular intervals as the Narrator talks:

Narrator: …a powerful, figurative storm has started to brew.  Could this be the end of our allies?  Will it?  If you don’t know the answer to that, then I strongly suggest a career in middle management.
