The Trigamon Project

The Divine Parody

Season 1: Episode 38: The Heat of Battle

New Scene(Previously_On_Trigamon) {

@CameraReflect = This::Narrator

Narrator: Previously on Trigamon…

Narrator: Last time our allies encountered the new Lavaridge Gym Leader, Flannery Moore, who was understandably a bit frazzled by the transition.  Following our allies was Team Rocket, made a couple of heists, one at a bakery and another at an apothecary, but their ultimate objective was still the same: To capture Ash’s Pikachu.  They attempted to do this by using the hole-filled Lavaridge Gym’s battlefield to do their work for them, but quickly learned what happens when you cut corners: Jessie did something, we’re not quite sure what, to the gas main and suddenly Team Rocket was blasting off again.

Narrator: Today is going to be different though.  Today we have a real gym battle, and a chance to see just how much May really knows about the fire type…

}

New Scene(@Temporal = Early Morning)

A man in a hard hat and disaster gear stands out in front of the Lavaridge Gym fiddling with a meter while Flannery watches.  Officer Jenny stands nearby as well to supervise.  After a few seconds the man stands up.

Officer Jenny: How is it?

Man: Emergency shutoff went into effect as intended, which is why the entire neighborhood didn’t go up in flames.

Officer Jenny: So Flannery, it looks like you’ll be without gas for a few days…

Flannery nods.

Man: Except that wasn’t a gas line.  It’s too dangerous to have them in a volcanic town like this.

Officer Jenny: Then Henry, what was it?

Man Henry: That thing was a Nimisink.

Flannery: What’s that?

Henry: ArcGrid Power, the company we bought out a while ago, put those in the ground to try convert heat to electricity.  Someone tampered with it, which is why it blew.

Officer Jenny: I’ve never heard of something like that…

Henry: It’s because ArcGrid Power went out of business three years ago.  They’ve been left alone because they aren’t usually dangerous, its just that heat-to-electricity technology doesn’t work very well.

Henry now turns to Flannery.

Henry: So your electric bill will go up a bit unless you can stay below the threshold.  It shouldn’t be significant, though…

Henry says this last bit as Flannery stares, horrified.  Henry now turns back to Officer Jenny.

Henry: Somehow, Team Rocket managed to rip off part of the converter…

New Scene(@Temporal = Early Morning)

In the Pokémon Center, Benjy enters Brock’s room, and proceeds to open the window, commenting that it smells funny.  Blissey follows Benjy.

Benjy: When did you take the IV out?

Blissey indicates that it didn’t.

Benjy: Maybe Nurse Joy did that?

Blissey: Bliss…

Blissey: Saay…

Benjy helps Blissey check Brock’s blood pressure, which wakes Brock up, expecting to see Nurse Joy (we can tell by the look on his face); however quickly realizes that it’s Benjy and Blissey.  Benjy and Blissey both look at the reading on the machine.

Blissey: Bliss.

Benjy: Still on the low side, but it’s higher than mine now…  Not like it was when you came in.

Blissey turns to Benjy.

Blissey: Blissey?

Benjy: He’s been lying down all night, too.  Come on, Brock, you need to get some breakfast.

Brock shivers slightly, and Benjy helps him out of bed.

New Scene()

The rest of Ash and company are waiting for Brock once he emerges from the backroom.

Max: Brock, are you okay?

Ash: We were really worried when we saw all that blood…

Brock: It’s just that time of the year.  I’m okay.

Ash: Time of the year?

Benjy: My mom, back at home said nosebleeds are more common when it’s dry for some reason.

Max: Okay…

May: It doesn’t really make sense but…

Brock: Are you guys ready for your gym battle?

Ash nods, and May shakes a bit, and then nods nervously.

Max: Her second badge, here we go…

Narrator: This all makes me really curious how May got her first badge…

New Scene()

Ash and company stand outside the Lavaridge Gym, where Flannery is waiting for them.

Flannery: What took you guys so long?

Lavaridge Pharmacist: You’ve only been waiting for six minutes!

Max: What’s she doing here.

Flannery: She’s going to be the moderator for the battle.

Lavaridge Pharmacist: And you still haven’t found the badges!

Flannery: I’m not losing, you hear!

Lavaridge Pharmacist: You still have to hand over the badge in a draw…

Flannery turns somewhat red and steam starts coming from her head.

Brock: Simmer down.  We’ll find them if it becomes a problem…

Brock’s comment seems to upset Ash a bit but Ash says nothing.

New Scene()

QST.camera zooms onto the crater from the sky, ending up at fifteen feet off the ground.  White lines have been painted on the ground on the crater, making it into a battlefield.  Benjy, Brock, and Max sit on the bleachers to the side of the crater while the Pharmacist takes the referee position.  Flannery takes her position on the side of the battlefield farthest from the entrance, while Ash and May stand about six feet apart, both facing Flannery.  The camera now zooms onto the bleachers:

Brock: How have they been on coordinating their attacks?

The question is directed at Max, and it takes him a few seconds to realize this and respond.

Max: Coordinating their attacks?

Brock: Then this is going to end badly…  If they can’t work together…

Benjy: Then lets hope they don’t need to.

Pharmacist: Everyone standing by!

Benjy, Brock, and Max all look up.  On the battlefield, Ash, May, and Flannery also pay attention.

Pharmacist: This is a unique situation.  Flannery, you only have three pokémon correct?

Flannery nods.

Pharmacist: This will be a double battle with each challenger allowed two pokémon.

Brock: So it’s four on three? (whisper)

Pharmacist: In this battle, both the challengers and the gym leader will be allowed substitutions.  Furthermore, there is a time limit of two blocks.  If the challengers do not emerge victorious within this time limit, no badges will be awarded.

Max: A time limit?!

Brock: That’s plenty of time.  It should be more than enough time to decide the battle.

Pharmacist: I can’t spend too long away from the Pharmacy.  That’s it, now choose your pokémon!

On both sides of the crater, Ash, May, and Flannery look over their poké balls, and QST.camera goes into a split-screen (vertical panels) once they all have chosen their pokémon.

Pharmacist: And begin!

Flannery: Alright, Mag and Meg!

Flannery tosses both poké balls into the air and Slugma pop out of each one.

Ash: Alright!  Then Corphish, I choose you!

Corphish now emerges onto the battlefield, and QST.camera turns to May as she nervously looks over her poké balls.

Pharmacist: And battle!

Ash, May: What?!

Flannery: Mag flamethrower; Meg flamethrower!

Outnumbered two to one, Ash has Corphish dodge the attacks.

Flannery: Follow through!

The flamethrowers almost hit Corphish, only enough to do practically negligible damage before Corphish can land and scuttle aside faster than the Slugma can move.  The flamethrowers keep creeping at Corphish, however.

May: Beautifly, gust!

Beautifly emerges from it’s poké ball and blows the flames away from Corphish with a gust of wind.  The cinders go into the air where they hit Beautifly, singeing it slightly, but the attack is nevertheless blocked.

Ash: Corphish, bubblebeam!

As the flamethrower’s are blown away, Corphish launches a flurry of bubbles at the Slugma.

Max: Why’d she have to use Beautifly?!  It’s weak to fire…

Brock: Well she wasn’t given much time to think about it.

Benjy: Torchic’s fire attacks won’t do much against those Slugma–

Max: Nor will bug attacks–

Benjy: It’s a flying type too, though.

Brock: I think you might be overanalyzing this.

Max: Yeah, you give my sister too much credit.

Flannery instructs the Slugma to use flamethrower in response.  Meg and Mag are slow in going about this, allowing the bubbles to do damage.

May: Beautifly, stop them with string shot!

Beautifly fires a string shot at the Slugma, but it proves useless as both flamethrowers burn right through it, then turn and shoot at Corphish and Beautifly.  Ash calls to Corphish to dodge, and Beautifly dodges as well.  Switching back into an offensive mode, Ash has Corphish use bubblebeam and May has Beautifly attack with gust.  Both attacks strike the Slugma, knocking them around a bit but not doing any serious damage.

Flannery is now visibly annoyed that she can’t land an attack.

Flannery: Meg, Mag!  Use smog!

The smog starts to cover the battlefield.

May: Beautifly, counterattack!  Gust!

Beautifly flaps it’s wings to blow the smog away, but before it can get all of it, Flannery has Mag attack it with flamethrower.

Ash: May!

May: Dodge it!

Beautifly does a backwards somersault to avoid the flames as the smog creeps back towards Beautifly and Corphish.

May: Get out of the way!

Beautifly continues to fly away from the flames while Corphish retreats from the smog towards the edge of the arena.

Flannery: Now flamethrower at full pow–

May: Blow it away!

At once Beautifly throws powerful gusts at the smog as both Meg and Mag go into flamethrower mode.  Corphish is hit with a flamethrower from out of the smog while Beautifly tries to blow it away.  For some reason, Beautifly’s gust is more powerful from higher up and it blows the smog away more quickly, but now Beautifly also has to contend with a flamethrower, which breaks through the gust (albeit being weakened by it) doing massive damage to Beautifly.  May gasps.

Flannery: Meg, flamethrower on Beautifly too!

May: Dodge it!

Ash: Corphish, crabhammer!

Beautifly barely manages to avoid both flamethrowers while slowly taking more damage from what looks like a burn.  Meanwhile, Corphish strikes Meg with a crabhammer, dealing major damage.

Flannery: Mag, smog!

Corphish hits Meg with another crabhammer as Mag blasts smog at Corphish.  May has Beautifly use gust at this time, blowing the smog back on Meg and Mag, providing what looks like a winning strategy, with Corphish to close to effectively use flamethrower and Beautifly blowing away the smog.  Flannery has Meg attempt to use flamethrower on Beautifly, but Ash has Corphish prevent it from doing so; knocking the Slugma’s head a different direction.

Meg’s flame body burns Corphish, and Flannery has Mag use flamethrower on Beautifly, which counters with a gust as May sprays it with a burn heal.  Beautifly uses the warm air to rise out of the way and avoid the attack, now staring down at both Slugma and Corphish from ten feet in the air.  Corphish now jumps backwards to rest it’s burned claw.

Ash: Now finish them with bubblebeam!

May: And Beautifly, gust!

Corphish raises it’s good claw and fires bubbles at the Slugma, while Beautifly fires a gust from above.

Flannery: The two of you focus!  Use overheat!

While the pokémon attack, Ash, May, Max, and Brock wonder what overheat means.  They are answered seconds later, when both Slugma turn their heads towards Corphish and Beautifly respectively and launch massive storms of fire.  These push through Corphish’s and Beautifly’s attacks, landing a double knock-out.

Pharmacist: Corphish and Beautifly are unable to battle!

May looks slightly disheveled as Ash notes that both Meg and Mag look exhausted, something that Flannery, beaming on the other side of the battlefield seems to be completely unaware of.

Ash: May, you ready?

May looks up to see that Ash has already recalled Corphish and is waiting for her.

May: M-hm.  Let’s go Skitty!  As soon as Skitty pops out of it’s poké ball it starts to chase it’s tail…

Flannery: Meg, Mag, overheat!

May: Skitty!  Dodge it!

It takes about five seconds for Meg and Mag to get overheat together, during which time:

Ash: Pikachu, thunderbolt!

Pikachu’s attack strikes both Slugma, jolting them and causing them to release their overheats a second and a half early.

May: SKITTY!

Skitty seems to be paying no attention and continues chasing it’s tail as the blasts loom nearer, converging into a single attack.

Brock: Uh-oh!

Swinging his legs nervously, Benjy happens to kick a small pebble onto the crater.  Skitty instantly detects this, and jumps aside to chase after the pebble as it rolls down the side of the crater, simultaneously getting itself out of the way of both attacks which explode on the crater rim.

Skitty’s chasing of the rock meanwhile has captured the attention of both May and Flannery, allowing Ash to seize the moment.

Ash: Thunder now!

Caught off guard, Flannery starts to call for her Slugma to respond, but before she can even get an entire word out, thunder hits Meg and Mag knocking both of them out in a small explosion.

Flannery now collapses to her knees, seeing this.  Skitty meanwhile is playing with the pebble, oblivious to what just happened on the battlefield.  The Pharmacist looks over both Slugma carefully.

Pharmacist: *sigh.*  Meg and Mag are…

The Pharmacist continues to watch Meg and Mag.

Max: Why doesn’t she declare them unable… (whisper)

Benjy: I’m guessing since it’s four on three she’s going a bit easier on Flannery… (whisper)

Brock: She has to make sure they aren’t going to get back up, for it to be a clean victory.

Benjy: Now I’m beginning to understand what the term "clean" means.

Yami Benjy: It’s what your room is not.

Benjy: (bleep) you, liar.

Pharmacist: Meg and Mag are unable to battle.  Flannery, please recall them.

May: Skitty, please pay attention to–

Flannery seems confused for a quick second, then recalls her two Slugma.

Brock: So now it’s two on one…

Max: That is, if Skitty fights, if it can fight…

Suddenly, Flannery starts to show more energy.

Flannery: Let’s go!  Torkoal!

Flannery stomps her foot as she calls out a Torkoal, which is about three quarters as energetic as she is.

Flannery: Flamethrower!

Ash: Pikachu, agility!

May: Skitty…

Pikachu jumps out of the way of flamethrower, and the heat of the approaching flames causes Skitty to jump out of the way in time to avoid the flames as well.

Ash: Pikachu, thunder!

Flannery: Torkoal, iron defense!

Torkoal tucks it’s limbs into it’s shell and it’s shell begins to glow.

Max: That’s stupid…

Brock: What do you mean?

Thunder misses Torkoal for the most part, but Torkoal is shocked by some of the sparks coming off of thunder.

Benjy: Iron conducts electricity.  Making your shell like iron is just going to draw the electricity towards you.

Max: I think she meant amnesia–

Max is suddenly cut off by Flannery:

Flannery: Torkoal, overheat!

Without much warning, Torkoal looses a massive blast of flames at Pikachu, scorching the electric pokémon and almost sending it flying out of the arena.  Pikachu is left panting, somewhat scorched by the blow.

May: Skitty–use doubleslap!

Skitty doesn’t respond as it’s sleeping peacefully in the middle of the battlefield, but Flannery does respond by having Torkoal use iron defense again.  Pikachu doesn’t use the chance to attack, due to still recovering from the first overheat attack.

Flannery: Overheat again!

Ash: Dodge with quick attack!

Pikachu zips towards Torkoal, dodging overheat by moving alongside the attack.  This startles Flannery, who reacts accordingly

Flannery: Iron defense!

Ash: Jump off it’s shell!

Flannery: What?

Ash smiles as Pikachu jumps off of Torkoal’s metallic shell into the air, leaving Torkoal affected by what appears to be static at the same time.

Ash: Now thunderbolt!

Flannery: Torkoal, dodge!

Torkoal rushes forwards, but the electricity arcs and shoots forwards, striking Torkoal and sending it flying about four feet up into the air.  Flannery stares, dumbstruck.

Ash: You can’t expect to dodge effectively when your shell is a lightning rod.

Torkoal crashes to the ground with a loud thud, landing almost vertical with the ground, and proceeds to roll onto it’s stomach, looking more than a bit frazzled.

Flannery: Torkoal has the ability white smoke.  What are you talking about?!

Flannery: This is bad, if I lose, then I have to give them the badge, and don’t even know where we keep them!

Ash has Pikachu use thunderbolt, and Flannery snaps out of her worry in time to tell Torkoal to dodge Pikachu’s attack.  Torkoal jumps forwards to avoid the shock, but is only partially successful due to the magnetized shell.

Flannery: Flamethrower forwards!

Ash: Huh?  Pikachu, th–

May: Skitty!

Flamethrower blasts towards May’s sleeping Skitty, striking it and sending it backwards as it wakes up with a loud meowing sound, and comes crashing down away from the flames with approximately 40% of it’s HP left.  Skitty looks up and glares at Torkoal menacingly.

Max: That was a cheap shot!

Brock: Max, it’s a gym battle.  She’s just doing her job…

Flannery: I do feel bad about having to do that, though.

As Skitty appears to struggle to stand, May looks frantically at the battlefield.

Flannery: But it’s awake now, so all’s fair…

Flannery: Torkoal, flamethrower!

Ash: Pikachu, thunderbolt!

Flannery: ‘leven o’clock!

Pikachu starts to use thunderbolt as Torkoal starts to use flamethrower.

Flannery: Scratch that, overheat!

Ash: Pikachu, thunder!

About one second later both finish charging their attacks, and both attack.  The attacks collide, and suddenly explode in mid air with a massive blast.  Sitting in the bleachers, Benjy is revealed to have dove for cover, while Max and Brock appear somewhat injured from the blast.  As the smoke clears, it becomes apparent that the attack did more to the trainers than their pokémon.  Torkoal’s shell protected it, while Pikachu managed to avoid the blast.  Skitty trembles in the corner of the battlefield closest to May.
Ash and Flannery are somewhat covered in soot, and as Ash shakes the soot from himself and his clothing, he realizes that his arms are covered in first-degree burns.  Flannery is burned as well, but not quite as badly.

Ash: Sheesh.

May: Ash!  Can we pause this?  You’re injured!

Ash: I’m fine.

Ash now takes note that Flannery is also looking at him nervously.  Ash now looks down at his legs and sees that the front of his pants are destroyed, and the fronts of them are also burned, with one of his legs bleeding slightly.

Ash: Hey, if the pokémon can take this, then so can I!

QST.camera shifts to the stands, where Benjy examines Max’s injuries.

Brock: He really wants that badge… (said to Max)

Ash: You think I’d give up from just a few scrapes like that?

Brock: Ash, you’ve sustained more than just a few scrapes!

Ash turns to May, nervously.

Ash: You ready?

May nods, silently being glad that she isn’t in Ash’s shoes.

Flannery: Then I’m going all out!

Ash: Alright!

Flannery: Torkoal, overheat!

Ash: Pikachu, thunder!

May: Skitty, take cover!

On the bleachers, the Millennium Gameboy Advance glows.

Yami Benjy: Celebi, safeguard!

Celebi emerges from it’s ball and safeguard protects Benjy, Max, and Brock from this next blast, which scatters burning, electrified cinders all over the battlefield, but isn’t as destructive to the trainers as the last one.  A slight aura around May quickly fades, as Pikachu and Torkoal continue to face off.  As the dust clears, Skitty is shown to have interpreted May’s instructions to "take cover" to mean "bury your head in the ground," and Skitty extracts it’s head as the battle continues, with Pikachu having sustained significant damage.  Torkoal isn’t looking to hot either (@QST.no_pun_intended); but Flannery seems oblivious to Torkoal’s condition.

Flannery: Torkoal, ready?  Flamethrower.

Torkoal tries to get flames together, but can’t seem to pull off an attack, making Flannery nervous.  Seeing this, Ash has Pikachu attack:

Ash: Pikachu, thunderbolt!

Pikachu is now facing the same problems as Torkoal, having taken too much damage to pull off an attack effectively.  Both pokémon stare at each other, both on the verge of defeat, but neither having the energy to actually defeat the other.

Ash: Hey, May!  Can Skitty–

May: Skitty!

Skitty looks in May’s direction.

May: It’s our turn, doubleslap on Torkoal!

Skitty hesitates.

May: Go!

With this, Skitty rushes at headlong Torkoal as it tries to gather flames, and strikes Torkoal with repeated slaps of it’s tail, which do next to nothing to Torkoal.  Torkoal kicks at Skitty all the while trying to gather firepower.  Despite Skitty’s furious attacks, Torkoal remains more or less unaffected altogether.  Torkoal kicks at Skitty, slightly damaging it and knocking it away.

Flannery: Powered on, flamethrower on Skitty!

Skitty darts to the side as Torkoal tries to aim at it.

Ash: Pikachu, quick attack!

Flannery turns her attention to Pikachu as the electric rodent rushes forwards.

May: Skitty, doubleslap!

Skitty strikes Torkoal with it’s tail doing next to no damage.

Ash: Pikachu, thundershock!

Before quick attack can reach Torkoal, Pikachu lands and launches a large spark, but with much less power than it’s previous attacks, at Torkoal.  The shock stuns Torkoal as Skitty slaps it with it’s tail again.  This is too much for Torkoal, who collapses, but also passes the charge onto Skitty, whom is thrown five feet into the air by the shock.  Skitty crashes to the ground, glaring angrily at Torkoal and Pikachu, before it passes out.

May:

Ash:

May: That makes three…

Flannery: Ha!  Take that!  Torkoal, we did it!

Flannery now rushes onto the battlefield to congratulate her pokémon, while Max and Brock stare in surprise.  As Flannery picks up Torkoal, she notices that it isn’t replying.  Torkoal’s leg twitches slightly.

Pharmacist: Torkoal is unable to battle.  Skitty is unable to battle.

Flannery: S-so it’s a draw then?  They don’t get the badge, right?

Brock: Torkoal was knocked out before Skitty, though.

Flannery swallows hard.  Brock looks to the pharmacist, who looks back uneasily.

Pharmacist: I just had to make up rules…

Ash, May, and Flannery all stare at the pharmacist in confusion.  May is now holding Skitty and stroking it gently.

Brock: They’re technically nothing that stops them from doing that, as long as those rules are fair-ish.  Basically, she just handed both of you a handicap.

Ash: So about the badge–

Flannery: Um–

Max: You don’t actually have any badges to give, do you?

Flannery sighs and recalls Torkoal

Flannery: No…

Pharmacist: We can’t find where her grandfather hid them.

Yami Benjy: That’s the trouble with making up rules.  You aren’t as prepared to deal with the unexpected.

Pharmacist: How would *you* resolve this?

Yami Benjy: I propose a treasure hunt.  If any of the five of us can find where the badges are kept, then it’s treated as a victory, and Ash and May get the badge.  If we can’t find them before sundown, then it’s your victory.

Ash:

Flannery: Make it by sundown tomorrow.

Yami Benjy: Agreed.

The pharmacist looks miffed at being bypassed.  Ash starts to walk towards the house, but shudders slightly.

Brock: Ash, you really ought to get back to the pokémon center.

Ash: But…  If my pokém…

Brock: Your pokémon need to get some rest, too.  Let us handle this.

Max: This is something we can handle.

Ash: I’m fine, really.

Yami Benjy: You’re in shock, Ash.  You’ll feel much worse once the shock wears off.

Flannery: I’ll go with you.

Ash: I’m fine, I…

May: That pharmacist just disappeared, right when we need her…

Brock: Look at your legs, Ash, look at your fingertips…

Ash stares downwards.

Max: We’ll find it.

New Scene()

Ash sits in the pokémon center, with Flannery next to him.  Nurse Joy comes out of the backroom of the pokémon center with a pen and a clipboard.

Nurse Joy: How are you feeling?

Ash: I’m fine, honest.

Nurse Joy: Please use this chart to describe it.

Nurse Joy hands Ash a paper chart, which Ash reads over.

Ash: A one; very light barely noticeable pain, like a mosquito bite or a poison ivy itch. Most of the time you never think about the pain.

Nurse Joy: Hm…

Nurse Joy makes a marking on the page.

Nurse Joy: Blissey will be right with you.

Ash kicks his feet absentmindedly over the edge of the couch-bench.

Flannery: Barely noticeable, huh?

Ash: When you’re traveling, this happens all the time.  The question is, was that a fair battle?  I’ve never heard of 4 on 3…

Flannery: That’s because the pharmacist made it up.  It’s boring for her just to do the same old thing all the time.

Ash: Wait…

Flannery: And she gave me substitutions, which are usually reserved only for the challenger.

Ash: But you didn’t use them!

Flannery: And it’s not like Skitty did anything either.

Ash: You took time to attack it…

Flannery: And your had Pikachu take the time to protect it.  You and your girlfriend beat my Slugma fair and–

Ash: Girlfriend?!

Ash looks at Flannery in shock.

Ash: She’s not my girlfriend!

Flannery: Too bad.  You guys would make a cute couple.  Wait, you’ve been friend-zoned, right?

Ash: What does that mean?

Flannery: It’s means that she’s playing hard to get.

Ash: Uh…  It’s not like that.  We’re just friends.

Flannery then mutters the next comment under her breath:

Flannery: Or do you like me instead?

Ash: Say what?!

Flannery starts laughing at Ash’s horrified reaction, then appears to get her laughter under control.

Flannery: Regardless, as Lavaridge’s gym leader, I’ve accepted defeat and made my decision.  People think because I’m young, that they can tell me how to act.

Benjy: I know what you mean.

Ash and Flannery turn to see Benjy standing in the doorway, and watch him expectantly.  Benjy swallows hard.

Benjy: Found them.

Flannery: Where were they?

Benjy: Where you’d never expect.  Your shower had a tile in the floor, actually several, that could be removed.  The box was hidden under there.

Ash: And how did you find them?

Benjy: Satolite sniffed May’s balance badge and then scanned the house for similar material.

Flannery: In the shower…

Benjy: And Max found these really weird magazines…

Flannery: Weird magazines?

Benjy: …in your grandpa’s closet.

Flannery relaxes a bit.  At this point, Blissey tries to approach Ash, who’s kicking legs make this difficult.  Ash bonks Blissey slightly before realizing that it was there, then quickly apologizes to it.

Refresh Scene()

Ash’s leg is bandaged and Blissey wears a small bandage around it’s ear.  Ash and company are now standing around in the pokémon center.

Brock: Don’t worry Ash.  If a gym leader gives someone their badge, its always valid.  They only get involved if the gym leader won’t give someone the badge whom actually beat them.

Max: Flannery has that problem too, right?

Brock: Except that challenger actually lost.

May: We’re going to the hot springs tomorrow, right?

Max: You’re more excited about that than the badge you won…

This comment results in a chorus of giggles, after which, Ash does his classic badge-win emote, with Pikachu chiming in from the pokémon center’s counter.  Beautifly and Corphish chime in as well, while May’s Skitty is preoccupied with the cone around it’s neck.
