Wattson: What do you say we’ll continue our battle? It’ll take your mind off of Pikachu’s condition.
May: You serious?
Wattson: Of course I am. I’ve been in this situation before, right Coal?
QST.camera shifts from Wattson to Coal, whom has just entered the room.
Coal: One condition.
Referee: Hey! I’m the ref here!
Coal: No electric attacks. It’s not safe.
}
Referee: What are you talking about?! This is the Mauville Gym!
Coal: You could cause an electric fire. Given how we’re trapped here, that would be extremely dangerous.
The referee and Wattson both stare at Coal.
Ash: I’m not comfortable with this, but I won’t tempt you. Treecko–
Treecko looks up at Ash.
Ash: Lets do this!
Treecko: Treecko!
Wattson: In that case… Magneton!
Wattson presses the button on Magneton’s poké ball and it shoots out above the battlefield.
Wattson: Magneton, tackle!
Magneton turns towards Wattson, confused.
Wattson: It’s a grass-type, so electricity will be ineffective.
Magneton continues to eye Wattson, nervously.
Ash: Treecko! Bullet seed!
Bullet seed strikes Magneton hard on the backside, but the attack only does minor damage.
Wattson: Magneton thun–
The referee raises a red flag as Magneton crackles with electricity.
Referee: Electric moves are a safety hazard!
Wattson: I mean tackle!
Magneton shoots at Treecko.
Ash: Dodge it!
Treecko leaps in the air out of the way of Magneton!
Wattson: After it!
Magneton turns and hurdles after Treecko, whom turns his head around just in time for Magneton to crash into it.
Ash: Pound attack!
Treecko strikes Magneton hard, using the recoil to propel itself to the ground.
Ash: Bullet seed!
Treecko starts to shoot seeds at Magneton, but it only has a time to get a few out before Wattson tells Magneton to use tackle again, and it shoots at Treecko.
Ash: Strike back! Pound!
As Magneton approaches Treecko, Treecko strikes it hard with it’s tail, doing noticeable damage to Magneton, but the force of the impact also damages Treecko. Both pokémon are pushed backwards by about a foot by the force of the clash. Treecko responds by striking at Magneton without waiting for Ash’s instruction, however Magneton zips back.
Ash: Bullet seed!
Treecko instantly launches bullet seed at Magneton, doing more damage, as Magneton tries to zip out of the way twice, with each time Treecko managing to re-target bullet seed on it.
Wattson: Left and back!
Magneton zips out of the way of bullet seed again, following Wattson’s directions.
Wattson: Sonicboom!
Ash: Dodge it!
Magneton shoots a sonicboom straight at Treecko, but it leaps in the air to avoid it. Sonicboom smashes into the ground where Treecko was, damaging the floorboards but not Treecko, sending a small shockwave through the gym, which appears to wake Pikachu from it’s sleep.
Pikachu stands up, allowing the shirt covering him to fall to the floor.
Pikachu: Pika–chu?
Ash and Treecko immediately turn their attention to Pikachu. Magneton does too, although this is less noticeable.
Ash: Pikachu! You feeling better?
Pikachu sparks, and this appears to make both Treecko and Magneton both nervous. Wattson watches this interaction, and as he does, he begins to smile mischievously.
Wattson: Magneton, sonicboom now!
Magneton hesitates.
Ash: Wait–
Magneton now fires sonicboom at Treecko, whom leaps out of the way, although Ash can’t see this, and gasps, but holds his chest upon seeing that Treecko has avoided most of the damage, sighing in relief, now with his focus on Wattson and Magneton. With his attention turned, Pikachu walks past Ash and onto the battlefield, as if in a trance.
Pikachu: Pika.
Ash: Wait, Pikachu, it’s not your turn–
Ash rapidly tries to look between Pikachu and Magneton as Pikachu continues to walk onto the battlefield, and suddenly starts sparking.
Pikachu: Chu.
<QST::SlowMotion>
Without instruction, Pikachu blasts an immense stream of electricity at Magneton. Treecko leaps out of the way, and despite it’s not being the target, sparks from the stream still manage to touch Treecko’s tail, which wrack it’s body with spasms. Treecko collapses to the ground, still hanging on despite having taken massive damage as the stream of electricity shoots towards Magneton, colliding with the magnet Pokémon in a brilliant display of light.

In the next room over, Benjy stands at the terminal when a massive flash of energy comes from the battlefield. The Millennium Gameboy Advance activates with a flash of golden light as Yami Benjy rushes to the door as Magneton screams in pain, before crashing to the ground.
Ash: Pikachu! What did you–
Ash quickly turns to Wattson.
Ash: I’m sorry. I–
Wattson rushes towards Magneton, but Coal grabs him by the arm before he can arrive.
Wattson: Coal?!
Coal: Get back!
Wattson hesitates, so Coal yanks him off of his feet, off of the battlefield to where Wattson crashes where the wall of the gym meets the floor, landing in the sitting position. Wattson starts to get up.
Coal: Stay back!
Ash, May, and Max all watch as Magneton crackles with electricity, while Pikachu stares at the destruction he caused, looking quite pleased with himself. Magneton continues to crackle with electricity, which slowly coalesces into a long serpentine shape. QST.camera shifts to Benjy and Yami Benjy as they both stare in sheer horror at this shape.

Nurse Joy stares at her computer, as a red light starts to flash on her monitor, and her computer starts beeping. Nurse Joy, quickly picks up her telephone.
Nurse Joy: I’m detecting a huge electro-magical charge right at the Mauville gym…
Dispatcher: I’ve already…
Nurse Joy: It’s bigger this time!
Dispatcher: How much bigger?!
Nurse Joy: About fifty times bigger!
Dispatcher: The Hyperion Brigade is on their way at this moment.
Nurse Joy puts the phone down, shaking, and clasps her hands in front of her chest.
Nurse Joy: Please be safe, Wattson.

Brock is sitting on a park bench with the young woman that he met in the last episode. Brock’s Mudkip is sitting on her lap as she strokes it. Empty cups that have what looks like ice cream residue sit next to both Brock and the young woman.
Young Woman: Some of my friends find it odd that I can’t imagine a world without pokémon.
Brock: Well, we’ve been around pokémon our entire lives. But I guess if–
Young Woman: You don’t have to try to explain.
The young woman sighs.
Young Woman: I know. Your dad was a gym leader. Both my parents were trainers. But Erin comes from Zanaris, if that gives you any idea…
Brock: There are pokémon on Zanaris though, aren’t there?
Young Woman: A few, yes. But they must be really good at hiding from what I hear.
As the young woman says this, her phone beeps causing Mudkip to leap off of her lap. The young woman quickly pulls her phone out and checks it, gasping as she does. Mudkip also gasps as she does.
Brock: Jane, something wrong?
Young Woman → Jane: N-nothing’s wrong. I’m sorry, but I need to cut this short.
With this, Jane jumps to her feet and takes off across the park, and Brock and Mudkip look at each other, confused and concerned.

Jane runs into an alley.
Jane: I’m coming.
Jane suddenly stops and touches her toes together, clasping her hands in front of her chest. Instantly, circle of light with symbols and magical inscriptions in it appears on the ground beneath her. She blinks three times quickly, which appears to activate something in the magic circle, causing it to fill the alleyway with light, which quickly wraps around her body.
The light first condenses into a pink jumpsuit with a black nine-pointed start on the back, and a heart at the end of each point on the star, such that the points of the star are touching the points of each heart. The light now focuses around her hands and feet (QST.camera split-screens four ways to show this), creating cute frilly pink cuffs. QST.camera now returns to normal, and rotates around Jane to show the light becoming a bow on the front of her suit, and then becoming a headband on her head, with a bow on each side.
With this, all the light fades, except for a ball of light in Jane’s left hand, which quickly turns into a pink staff with a yellow gem at the tip. As this happens, footsteps can be heard from the alleyway, and Jane leaps up into the air, appearing to defy the laws of gravity, flying up above a building as Brock’s Mudkip rushes into the alleyway, sniffing around at things. Mudkip catches a quick glimpse of the transformed Jane as she sails off through the air.
Brock: Mudkip, did you find anything?
Mudkip: Kipkipkip!
Brock: Just what happened there?
Mudkip makes a gurgling noise, then darts off, prompting Brock to chase after it.
Brock: Mudkip! What’s wrong?!
Mudkip: Muhd…
Brock: It found something!

In the Mauville gym, QST.camera focuses on Magneton lying on the ground and slowly discharging the electricity from Pikachu’s attack. QST.camera slowly zooms out, revealing that this electricity is leaving Magneton to form a giant serpentine dragon, made out of electricity. As the dragon’s entire body begins to fit on QST.camera, the electricity-dragon roars, scarring Magneton so badly that it nearly breaks apart into it’s component magnemite, but instead zips away into the room behind Benjy and Yami Benjy, whom are both staring in sheer horror at the dragon. Wattson is also dumbstruck by the existence of the dragon, and ducks for cover as it roars again, shivering.
Coal: Get to your feet!
Wattson quickly follows Coal’s instruction, as the dragon pulls it’s head back and roars again, loudly.
Benjy: I’ll never forget…
Yami Benjy: Neither will I…
Benjy: It looks just like the dragon we saw on the night we met…
Benjy’s mental voice trails off.
<Flashback::By Spirit Alone()>
In his room at home, Benjy stares out the window as lightning flashes, taking the shape of a serpentine dragon, which appears to throw it’s head back and roar, the same way the dragon in the gym just did.
*CRACK*
Lightning hits the window, destroying it in a shower of glass. Lana and Benjy flinch, and close their eyes (at which time QST.camera goes black), then open them to find themselves inside an orb of golden light. The device is shining brightly enough to illuminate the entire room. With another CRACK, the lightning strikes the orb, but the orb refuses to give. Still, Lana dives behind Benjy.
In the midst of the golden light being emitted, the device suddenly sends out a blue pulse. This time, when the lightning strikes the blue light, and there is a massive flash, and then a crack, as the lightning shoots out of the room, back outside where it explodes in a massive, ear-wrenching CRACK! Then silence, save for the sound of the rain on the roof.
Alexandra: What else can you do?
Yami Benjy: I don’t know…
</Flashback>
Benjy: You beat it before right?!
Yami Benjy: I merely blocked one of it’s attacks. But I have no idea of what it’s capable of!
The sound of Wattson and the referee trying to force the electric door open can be heard, which the electric dragon appears to notice, expelling energized air through it’s nostrils. May and Max hold both Ash and each-other, shivering. Ash holds Treecko in his arms, completely speechless and dumbfounded.
As this is transmitted, Wattson and the referee both run past Benjy and Yami Benjy into the room behind them.
Coal: Wattson!
Suddenly the electric dragon shoots it’s head forwards, straight for the door that Wattson and the referee went through, faster than Yami Benjy can react. The Millennium Gameboy Advance generates a golden shield of light, but this isn’t enough to block the attack, and Yami Benjy is send flying backwards into the far wall of the room. Yami Benjy is stunned by this hit, with everything happening too fast for him to respond. The eye of Anubis symbol glows brightly on Yami Benjy’s forehead as he struggles to stand.
The electric dragon then snakes itself into the room, frying the electronic equipment and approaching where Wattson and the referee are both desperately trying to escape.
Yami Benjy: …
Benjy: Can you get up?!
Yami Benjy: …I can’t…
Benjy: Then let me take control!
Yami Benjy: But if I can’t move, how can you? It’s the same body!
Benjy’s spirit appears to smile, and the Millennium Gameboy Advance activates. Benjy curses under his breath. QST.camera now turns to Wattson and the referee, whom are both hit by a spark from the electric dragon. It’s unclear whether this is intentional or not, but it knocks both completely unconscious. QST.camera shifts back to Benjy, whom is now on his feet.
Yami Benjy: Benjy…
Benjy takes a step towards the door, despite being badly injured.
Benjy: It’s… Not… Might…
Yami Benjy: …
Benjy takes another step, and then another towards the gym.
Benjy: It’s… Spirit…
Benjy takes another couple steps, then stumbles, but before he can fall, Coal catches him by the arm (Coal is holding Benjy’s right arm with his left). Benjy uses this time to regain his steadiness, as the electricity dragon snakes it’s way around the room to face Coal. Coal’s right arm sparks and crackles with electricity as he stares the dragon down. Coal speaks through clenched teeth:
Coal: Get back…
Benjy nods and continues walking slowly into the arena room, step by unstable step. Behind Benjy, both of Coal’s arms spark.
Coal: That idiot W–

With Benjy now about eight feet inside the arena room, the electric dragon shoots it’s head right past Coal at Benjy, as Coal turns to react, and then Benjy turns just as the electricity dragon is about to strike him.
</QST::SlowMotion>
A sudden, blue explosion stops the electricity dragon’s attack but knocks Benjy off of his feet to where he falls and goes rolling, ending up on his side, facing the electricity dragon, still conscious. The electricity strikes again, but its attack is blocked by another explosion of blue light, forcing it to retreat into it’s previous position. As the light clears, a beam of light can be seen on the floor, coming through a hole in the ceiling, which is about a foot across.
Below is a diagram of the Mauville Gym’s layout, or at least what’s important for this episode, showing where people are at the time that the roof breaks open with the blue light. Note that Wattson and the Referee’s original locations are given for reference, although both are knocked out at this time. The large black arrow shows where Coal was launched when he initially tried to break down the door to the outside. The blue is the hole in the ceiling, the yellow is the electric dragon, the white in the walls are doors, and the white on the floor are bleachers. The green the room next to the gym are Wattson’s controls.
QST.camera synchronizes with Benjy’s field of vision as the electricity dragon growls at him.
May’s voice: I’ve got you!
Using support from May and Max to get up Benjy starts to back away and the electricity dragon starts to strike again, but a pair of balls of energy strike the it, forcing it to retreat back again. Coal is now backing away slowly, into the middle of the battlefield.
Girl’s voice: Back!
The electricity dragon roars, and prepares to strike Coal, who is emitting hundreds of sparks from his arms as he continues to stare the dragon down. Suddenly the electricity dragon strikes the ceiling of the room, blowing it to bits in a shower of sparks, then turns towards Benjy, May, and Max, and shoots it’s head forwards at them.
This lasts a split second, before the electricity dragon collides with a purple barrier. Benjy is now in a sitting position, and May and Max are standing behind him. Unlike Yami Benjy’s barrier, this barrier holds off the attack, and as the energy fades, a young girl in a purple jumpsuit, holding a magical staff faces the dragon. Pikachu sparks, and the electricity dragon roars, and prepares again to strike. Before it can though, the girl in purple strikes the dragon with her staff.
Girl_in_purple: Back!
Pikachu sparks again, and the electricity dragon sparks at the same time. The girl is unfazed, and strikes the electricity dragon again.
Girl_in_purple: Back I say!

Brock and Mudkip are running off in the direction that Mudkip thinks Jane took off in. Brock has to grab Mudkip to prevent it from darting into the street. Brock looks up to look for cars, and glances down the alleyway between two buildings in front of him.
Brock: Huh… Is that the gym?
Brock looks both ways, then suddenly looks up as the ground shakes.
Brock: ?
Brock now darts across the street, letting Mudkip down once he reaches the other sidewalk. The ground rumbles again, and Mudkip jumps into Brock’s arms. Brock though continues to walk forwards in a state of confusion. QST.camera synchronizes with Brock’s view point as he does.
As Brock reaches the end of the alleyway, getting a clearer view of the gym, the gym’s roof explodes without warning, and the electricity dragon shoots into the air and roars, with it’s head about 40 feet off of the ground. However, before it can do anything, it is struck with five beams of light, each of a different color {pink, orange, green, blue, purple}. The electricity dragon thrashes in response to this, destroying part of the front of the gym in the process.

QST.camera quickly shifts between showing Ash, May, Max, Benjy, Coal, and Treecko’s speechless expressions at seeing the fifty-foot electricity dragon all stretched out. Above them, five girls are all casting their colored beams at it, each beam matches the color of it’s caster’s jumpsuit.
Struck by all five beams, the electricity dragon thrashes, discharging large pulses of energy at the magical girls trying to contain it, pushing them away. Jane, in her pink jumpsuit goes shooting away out over the street, but manages to stabilize herself with something invisible before she crashes into a nearby building. The electricity dragon roars as it turns it’s attention to the magical girl wearing orange, and she appears to shiver in fright.
Jane: Over here!
Jane glows with pink energy as her staff begins to charge. The electricity dragon turns towards her, and sizes her up. The electricity dragon suddenly swats at her with its tail, but Jane dodges with a midair jump, then aims the gem at the end of her staff at the electricity dragon.
Jane: PARADOX SERENADE!
Jane’s staff fires a beam of yellow and pink light at the electricity dragon, which appears to do moderate damage. The electricity dragon isn’t stunned, and strikes Jane’s shoulder with a bolt of lightning, almost knocking her out of the sky. Before the electricity dragon can strike her again, all four other magical girls strike it with blasts of energy.

May: Benjy, are you okay…
Benjy: Yeah… I’m okay.
Max: You’re shaking.
Benjy acknowledges this, but resists May and Max’s efforts to steady him, at the same time trying to get his breathing under control.
Coal: You should sit down.
Benjy acknowledges Coal’s comment, but remains standing. Coal doesn’t make any further effort to get Benjy to sit.
Coal: I’m not quite sure what’s going on, but it’s tied to Pikachu… Somehow.
Ash seems to miss this comment, so May repeats it aloud, calling out to him.
Ash: What?
Max: When Pikachu sparks, the dragon attacks!
Ash looks between Pikachu and the electricity dragon as this very phenomenon occurs, with the electricity dragon zapping the blue magical girl, which nearly knocks her out of the air.
Green Magical Girl: Erin!
Blue Magical Girl → Erin: Aaah!
Ash: Who are they?
Coal: I have no zarking clue.
Coal surveys the magical girls flying overhead battling the electricity dragon.
Ash: So it’s connected to Pikachu, huh?
Ash starts to reach for Pikachu, but in an instant Coal grabs him and rushes him back against the wall.
Ash: Hey…
Coal: You’re going to get electrocuted!
Ash: I’m always getting electrocuted!
Coal: No you’re not!
Ash: What are you talking about?!
Coal: Electrocuted, as in dead!
Ash gasps…
Ash: Nevertheless, I’ve been standing here dumbstruck long enough. Time to act!
Ash: Treecko! Bullet seed on that dragon!
Treecko nods, and despite it’s injured state, fires a powerful stream of bullet seeds at the electricity dragon. This attack quickly proves to be useless, as the electricity deflects the bullet seeds, sending them all over the room. The electricity dragon doesn’t even seem to notice.
Coal: Ash! What are you doing?!
Ash: I have to do something!
Coal lets Ash go and backs up, acknowledging this. At the same time, Benjy calls on Bayleef.
May: Um, Benjy…
Benjy: Magical leaf!
Bayleef stares at the electricity dragon nervously, then quickly fires a few magical leaves at it. These leaves appear to do very minor damage.
Yami Benjy: Benjy…
Benjy: What?
Yami Benjy: Ash is right, we have to do something. It’s no fair just to leave that *thing* to the magical girls.
Benjy: Do you have a plan?
Yami Benjy: Yes, but I’m going to need to get up close.
Benjy shudders.
Benjy: …I don’t think I can… I don’t think my heart can take another attack…
Yami Benjy: I know. Fortunately, that’s where Ash comes in.
Benjy glances at Ash, whom is staring upwards at the electricity dragon in frustration.
Benjy: I don’t know if I–
Yami Benjy: I’ll need you to stand by on the ground with Bayleef.
Ash now is holding is forehead in confusion.
Ash: I’ve got to think! This didn’t happen when we fought Lieutenant Surge back in Kanto… What’s going–
Benjy: Ash!
Ash turns to Benjy, whom is standing, facing him with the Millennium Gameboy Advance’s chain in his hand, and no longer around his neck.
Benjy: Use this!
Ash: Are you sure?
Benjy: It has a plan.
Nervously, Ash walks over to Yami Benjy and takes the Millennium Gameboy Advance from him, placing the chain around his own neck. Ash suddenly jumps to the side.
Yami Benjy: We can do this. It’s by spirit alone.
Ash: What are you?!
Yami Benjy: A friend.
Ash looks down at the Millennium Gameboy Advance.
Yami Benjy: Ready?
Ash: Why is it in my mind?!
Suddenly, the Millennium Gameboy Advance emits a brilliant pulse of energy, and the eye of Anubis symbol appears on Ash’s forehead.
Yami Benjy: Now jump!
Ash: Jump?!
Yami Benjy: It’s time we join the battle!
Ash leaps into the air, sailing upwards with a trail of golden light, allowing Yami Benjy to land an uppercut on the underside of the electricity dragon. This knocks the electricity dragon about fifteen feet higher into the air, preventing it from zapping the orange magical girl. The five magical girls now look upwards to face the electricity dragon, surrounding Ash in a pentagon. The electricity dragon also turns, staring down at everyone.
Suddenly the electricity dragon shoots it’s head forwards, but Yami Benjy blocks it with a fast, glowing punch from Ash’s fist. Ash now seems to be getting the idea of what to do as he struggles against the electricity dragon.
Jane: Now girls!
All five magical girls blast the electricity dragon with their staves, stunning it slightly and allowing Ash to knock it backwards/upwards again with another powerful punch. Ash now joins the magical girls in flying after it. The electricity dragon turns to face Ash again and starts to charge a powerful electric storm from it’s mouth.
Yami Benjy: Ash, Dodge!
Ash: I can’t! Or it will hit–
QST.camera shifts downwards showing that May, Max, Benjy, and Coal are right in the line of fire. Yami Benjy now looks back and sees this.
Jane: Paradox serenade!
The blast strikes the electricity dragon and disrupts the attack, but now the electricity dragon focuses on Jane, who appears injured, but charges up for an attack. Ash gulps.
Ash: Oh no you don’t!
Erin: Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Green Magical Girl: Heart lancer!
Erin: Tesseract judgement!
Along with Ash/Yami Benjy’s punch, the other two magical girls launch their attacks at the electricity dragon. While these disrupt the electricity dragon’s attack and deal damage, the electricity dragon responds by shooting electricity out in all directions, knocking everyone away from it. The purple and orange magical girls shoot their magical attacks at the electricity dragon, but it swats at them with it’s tail, then charges straight for Ash, whom is now about five feet in the air above the road in front of the gym.
Jane: Paradox serenade!
The blast to pink light strikes the electricity dragon, but does nothing to change it’s path. Ash starts to dodge, but quickly becomes aware of the proximity of the pavement behind him. Ash starts to turn around to try and defend himself:
Brock’s Voice: Forretress, explosion!
Ash: Huh?
The electricity dragon is suddenly struck by a massive explosion, knocking it back towards the gym, and Yami Benjy has Ash fly higher to prevent the electricity dragon from snapping at him. Ash zooms past all five magical girls who launch blasts of magic at the electricity dragon, causing it to squirm and try to blow them away, but it doesn’t seem to have the power to do that anymore. Suddenly, the magical girls’ attacks converge, knocking the electricity dragon out of the air and sending it crashing into the floor of the gym, where Benjy, May, Max, Coal, Bayleef, and Treecko all leap out of the way. Here the electricity dragon sparks angrily, threatening those already in the gym. Benjy swallows hard, reaching for the place that the Millennium Gameboy Advance would be.
Ash: Oh no you don’t!
As the electricity dragon sparks, Ash descends from the sky in a dive, the Millennium Gameboy Advance shining brilliantly. The electricity dragon looks up at him as he stares down at it.
Yami Benjy: Mind–
Yami Benjy’s fist starts glowing with energy. With a powerful blow, Ash/Yami Benjy strikes the electricity dragon.
Yami Benjy: –Crush!
With a flash, the electricity dragon disintegrates into nothing, and at the same time, Pikachu collapses with spirals on it’s eyes. The Millennium Gameboy Advance now de-activates.
Ash: Pikachu!
Ash runs over to scoop Pikachu into his arms, and this time Coal doesn’t stop him from doing so. Ash isn’t zapped this time.
Ash: Pikachu…
Ash looks up as Jane, Erin, and the other three magical girls land on the gym floor.
Jane: I’ll fly you guys to the pokémon center.
Jane now turns to the green and orange magical girls.
Jane: You guys look for Wattson.
Coal: He’s around back. Both he and the dragon–I mean his ref–tried to flee.
Jane looks at Coal squarely, then leaps over the wall into the next room.

QST.camera zooms in on the pokémon center from the sky, through the roof and into the building. Benjy is sitting on the couch-bench while Nurse Joy examines him. The purple magical girl stands by Benjy, watching Nurse Joy curiously.
Nurse Joy: Just minor cuts and bruises. Nothing major.
Benjy lets out a sigh of relief.
Nurse Joy: I’ll have to call this a first, usually when people say they’re okay they’re in shock, and they’re really not. You still need to take it easy though.
Benjy nods slightly. A Chansey now runs up to Nurse Joy.
Nurse Joy: How are they?
Chansey: Chansey-chan.
Nurse Joy: Good. I hope he learns from that. No more of this magical experimentation.
QST.camera shifts to show Ash at the Pokémon center’s counter, staring vacantly at the back of the center. May and Max watch him nervously.
Nurse Joy: Ash, I’ll–
Ash: Thanks…
QST.camera follows Nurse Joy into the back of the pokémon center, where Brock and Coal are standing, watching over Wattson, the referee, and Pikachu. The green magical girl also stands by Pikachu, while Jane stands by the referee. Jane turns to Nurse Joy as she enters the room.
Jane: Both are in critical condition.
Nurse Joy: How bad, Jane?
Jane: I don’t know. That electricity seemed to have somewhat of a nimis charge. That charge might be what’s sustaining their lives right now.
Nurse Joy: How long do we have?
Jane: I don’t know. We’ll have to let the expert determine what to do when he gets here. Should be ten minutes.
Brock puts damp washcloths on the foreheads of both Wattson and the referee.
Nurse Joy: And Pikachu?
Coal: Fatigued, with textbook symptoms of M.D.D.. But that doesn’t make any sense though.
Nurse Joy: You think it’ll recover after a good night’s sleep though?
Coal: Probably.
Brock: It has in the past.
Coal: But the shivering… If it really is M.D.D., the blanket isn’t going to help.
Nurse Joy: Jane, can you report back to them? That Pikachu’s trainer is just standing there, worried.
Jane nods, and turns to depart.
Nurse Joy: Coal, you should probably go now too. It’s not really–
Coal: Thanks, but I’ll stay here until this expert arrives.
Nurse Joy: But we really shouldn’t–
Coal: You said it’s a gray area in the policy right?
Coal eyes Nurse Joy curiously. Before she can respond, Coal continues:
Coal: Those gray areas exist for times like this.
Nurse Joy lets out a long sigh.
Coal: I’m not going to do anything unless their conditions start to change for the worse.
New Scene()
Jane emerges in the front of the pokémon center, where everyone else is waiting. May and Max both turn towards Jane, while Benjy sleeps on the couch-bench, the MGBA’s chain once again around his neck.
Jane: Um, excuse me…
Ash now turns towards Jane, but doesn’t say anything.
Jane: Your Pikachu seems fatigued, but your friend thinks there might be something else going on..
Ash: Did you contact Professor Oak?
Jane nods.
Jane: He didn’t seem to know what he was talking about, though.
May: Wait, Professor Oak?!
Ash: Wait–
Jane: The treatment Oak suggested, both your friend Coal and the expert on the line said would probably be fatal.
Ash: What did Oak suggest?!
Benjy opens an eye sleepily.
Jane: Don’t know, they wouldn’t tell me. But it got the expert to jump in his car to rush over here.
Ash shudders.
Jane: Anyways, I’ve decided to give you this.
Jane puts her hand in her pocket, and pulls out a small metallic object.
Jane: Its the Dynamo Badge of Mauville–
Jane suddenly notices Ash’s expression of surprise.
Jane: –what?
Ash: But…
Jane: As the leader of the hyperion brigade, I’m also certified to grant badges to trainers.
Ash: By the…
Jane: By the league, yes. And you did more than enough to earn this one.
Jane presses the Dynamo Badge into Ash’s hand. Ash stares at Jane in disbelief for a moment, before the silence is broken by the pokémon center door opening automatically. A tall man dressed in a simple black suit with coat-tails and wearing a top hat enters the pokémon center.
Man: Which of you is Pikachu’s trainer?
Ash starts to say something, and the man quickly identifies him.
Man: You, okay. Come with me.
The man starts walking into the back with Ash right behind him.
Man: Nurse Joy.
Nurse Joy: Doctor Kitterson, did–
Man → Kitterson: Let me have a look.
Max: Was that?
Jane nods.
Jane: That’s the expert they had on the phone.
Jane turns, and stares at Benjy with May and Max.
Jane: If Wattson does anything like this again, he’ll probably be stripped of his gym leader’s position. I don’t think he’s that stupid though.
May: What do you mean?
Jane: That electric dragon that appeared was most likely the result of nimis charges interacting with standard electric ones. Specifically, artificial nimis charges.
May: But what are those?
Jane: In addition to electric charges, there are also nimis charges. Wattson was playing around with using them together, and it didn’t work too well. There have been small incidents over the past year, but nothing on this scale. It’s my personal opinion that this was most likely the result of insufficient safety measures.
Max: You think it will be an Edwin Award?
Jane looks at Max curiously.
Benjy: What’s an Edwin Award?
Jane: It’s named after George Edwin, the man who came up with the theory of natural selection.
Max: Basically, it’s a special prize that they give people who aid natural selection by opting to remove themselves… Um…
Benjy: So it’s like a Darwin Award back on Earth.
Max: Did that make any sense?
Benjy nods.
Jane: It’s a lot less grisly than most of the Edwin awards I’ve seen.
Jane is now shivering, but seems to be a bit more cheerful. Brock now comes out of the back room.
May: What’s happening?
Brock: Kitterson’s looking after them. He expects them all to survive.
May: Well that’s good, right?
Brock: I’ve just never heard someone be so critical of Professor Oak before.
Benjy: Hm…
