New Scene()

Confused by his inability to draw a card, Starf wanders around the hallway, trying to get a good connection.

Starf: Hello?!  Hello?! (x5)

Starf looks down at his arm.

Starf: I’d like to report a faulty duel disk.

Yami Benjy: This is too silly, even for a parody…

Starf: No, he didn’t play a card effect, it’s the first turn of the duel!

Starf: What?

Starf: WHAT?!

Starf stomps his foot angrily.

Starf: What are you talking about?!  It’s not a feature, it’s a bug!

Starf: I’m telling you it’s a bug!

Starf suddenly looks at Yami Benjy, as if he’s been hung up on.

Starf: Blasted piece of (bleep).  Normally I’d take care of things quickly, but since we have eight thousand life points in this realm, that’s not possible.  But I’m still going first!

Starf doesn’t reply, but continues scraping the shadows with his foot.

Starf: Impossible!  He can break the rules of the shadows also?

QST.camera now de-synchronizes with Starf’s perspective.

Refresh Scene()

Benjy faces off against Starf in the corridor.

Benjy: You’re really creeping me out, you know that?

Starf doesn’t say anything.

Benjy: But it makes sense.  If pokémon and duel spirits can come into our world, then what’s stopping fictional people?  This guy is probably from Yu-Gi-Oh!™…, although I’ve never seen anyone like him!  Maybe he hasn’t aired yet, or he’s some minor character that never had a big enough part to play to get any screen time…

Starf continues to rub his foot in the shadows.

Yami Benjy: Benjy, what about fanfics?

Benjy: Well if he’s from a fan-fiction, that means…

Benjy: We’re in serious trouble.  Professionally published works get moderated, but fan-fictions…  And that also implies that every author is now…

QST.camera desynchronizes from Benjy’s field of vision as Benjy shakes his head rapidly.

Benjy: I need to focus!  I need to beat this guy…

Benjy: …By spirit alone!

Moisture Creature hits Starf with a bolt of light, and Starf collapses to the ground, his duel disk disintegrating as he does.  Suddenly the shadows disappear, and Benjy and Starf’s body are back in the hallway.  Around the area that was affected, many are now standing, including Alex, Alexandra, Lana, and Doctor Who.  The duel disk on Benjy’s arm now starts to dissolve into golden particles.

Yami Benjy: Benjy?  Wake me in three hours, okay?

Benjy: I’ll try.

Benjy is suddenly almost knocked over by Chikorita, as he and Pixielite rush at him, happy to see him safe.

Max: Benjy, what was that?

Benjy:

Benjy takes a deep breath.

Doctor Who: It appears to have been a shadow game.

Enough of Benjy’s golden duel disk has now dissolves for his deck, in it’s deck box to fall out, which is caught by Pixielite.

Benjy: Max, I’m thinking.

It appears to suddenly dawn on Benjy just how many people have gathered in the hallway to watch this, and it makes him jittery.  Benjy quickly scoops up Chikorita and then quickly pushes his way through the crowd to his office, quickly pushing the buttons on the keypad to open his door, and slips inside with Pixielite behind him carrying his deck box.

Outside Benjy’s door, students and staff are gathering by Benjy’s office door, while Benjy looks at them through the window on his door and the ones on both sides of his door.  Someone knocks on Benjy’s door, then to Benjy’s surprise opens it a crack and drops Shroomish’s ball inside, before closing it again.  As Benjy watches, Doctor Who walks away from his door, recapping his sonic screwdriver as he goes.  Shroomish’s ball rolls on the ground, and Shroomish pops out, a little bit dazed.

New Scene()

On some hallway, Brett enters a closet about ten feet wide and ten feet deep, holding Starf’s necklace.  Brett chuckles to himself mysteriously, then flips on the light.  This closet, like Benjy’s office, is mostly empty, but Brett has several crates and boxes lying around to act as furniture.

Narrator: At Realie Academy, it is not uncommon for a student to take over an empty closet and turn it into their office.  Thanks to a change in fire codes in the 1980s, Realie is chock with rooms that can’t be used as classrooms anymore.  This particular room is located underground, and is part of a bomb shelter left over from when Realie was built, during the cold war.

Brett walks over to a crate and sits down, chuckling to himself.  He turns the symbol of Zaros over in his hands excitedly.

Brett: My precious…

Brett: Well, that whole thing was weird, to be honest.  I’ll return it if it turns out to be nothing, but I’ve got a feeling that this isn’t a fashion statement.

Brett places the necklace with the Zarosian cross on a cardboard box next to him.

Brett: I can’t tell if he was insane, or if this thing is magical…

As if in response, the Zarosian cross sparkles.

Revert Scene()

Benjy is in his office, holding his right arm out towards Shroomish, with the back of it against the floor.

Benjy: Hey, how ya feeling?

Shroomish stares at Benjy’s hand nervously, while Pixielite and Chikorita watch it.

Shroomish: Shroo–shroom!

The server in the server rack now whirrs to life, and Benjy looks over at it for a split-second before he looks back at Shroomish.

Benjy: It can’t bite me if it can’t get it’s mouth around my finger, right?

As Benjy holds his hand on the floor, this certainly seems to be the case.  Shroomish just watches him curiously.

Benjy: But if fictional characters are bleeding into reality, then something needs to be done.  It will finally shake up the monotony around here, but that’s only the silver lining.  There’s a big black thundercloud on the horizon…

Benjy: I need to speak with a physicist about this…  Someone who–

A knocking sound on Benjy’s door suddenly causes him to look up.  QST.camera also shifts to the door, where [L] is knocking.  With his left hand, Benjy quickly recalls, Shroomish into its ball, then quickly gets up to let [L] in.

[L]: Benjy!  Benjy!  What happened?!

Benjy looks at [L] and takes a deep breath.

Benjy: It’s a long story.

[L]: So you’re not going to tell me?

Benjy: I’ll tell you, but…

[L]: Okay, I’ll use the restroom first.

Refresh Scene()

Two chairs are now in Benjy’s office, and Benjy is standing up so he can use his hands for hand motions while explaining things to [L], who sits in the other chair.

Benjy: So his life points hit zero, which means I won the game, and then he went unconscious and I wound up back here.

[L] shakes her head.

[L]: So it looks like we hired another fictional character–er–you know what I mean

Benjy nods, and sits down.

[L]: So tomorrow, we’re going to do a "training" day.

[L] does quote marks in the air before and after she says the word "training" in the previous line.

[L]: We’re going to run background checks on all of the new hires, but it will take some time to get good information back.  That man back there is a consultant that we recently hired.

[L] shakes her head.

[L]: My hair is going grayer by the day.

Benjy: Has he woken up yet?

[L] shakes her head.

Benjy: Don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing…

[L]: We’ve just turned what’s left of him over to the police.  But that’s interesting that he did the Beybey thing…

Benjy nods.

Benjy: At least that’s what I saw.  It might have been an illusion.

[L]: Okay.

Benjy: And do you know who won the election?

[L]: To be honest, we’re going to have to do that over.  Or maybe we’ll make a way for you guys to vote electronically.  We lost a whole day of instruction thanks to that–no, two days.

Benjy nods.

New Scene(Night)

Benjy sleeps soundly as a storm rages outside, and is only awakened when a bolt of lightning strikes an adjacent neighbor’s house.  Pixielite and Chikorita dive under a pile of laundry.  Benjy reaches for the light, then notices that his computer is still on, and a a program called "randomGen" is still active.

He gets up to check it but jumps as lightning strikes a few feet outside his window.  Benjy reaches for the mouse again, but jumps back as lightning strikes again.  This happens one more time.

Benjy: So much for lightning never striking the same place twice.  I guess that myth is busted.

Benjy reaches for the mouse, and lightning strikes again.  Benjy is prepared this time and doesn’t jump or flinch.  He retrieves the mouse and clicks on a button on the screen, which displays a log of numbers generated.

Benjy: Looks like the max is one-twenty-nine.  That shouldn’t be possible with signed bytes…  What’s going on…?  Looks like tomorrow I’m going to have to ask him.
